There's been way too much friction for what should and could have been a fun and friendly discussion.
I'm finally calling time on this one, folks :o |

With respect, compact and mirrorless EVF is way off-topic when we're talking about a potential and expected / hoped-for replacement DSLR for the K-3II. If you do a search, you'll find we've had numerous discussions on these forums as to whether Pentax should or shouldn't enter the mirrorless market, and that's very much a separate subject. I also think that the performance of a small-sensor compact, however impressive (and I agree, the RX100 MkIV *is* impressive) is off-topic when discussing DSLRs. They're entirely different cameras for different purposes, with different strengths and weaknesses, aimed at different users. In a nutshell, different :p
Your points about buffer speed, memory options and video capability are interesting and valid, though :)

It's fine (I've made a couple of minor edits ;)) - however, I'd appreciate if we can all move on from this particular part of the discussion :)
How about that K-3III in 2018, folks? Anyone? |

OK, folks, enough already. No more personal comments, please. Otherwise, I'll have to close the thread, and I'd prefer not to do that.
Please work with me on this? Thanks in advance :) |

Punched tape. Imagine a 24 megapickle image encoded on a long streamer of paper tape... Very steam-punk :p

But think of the physical dimensions of an SD card slot... that's considerably larger than the memory module within the card itself.

Given the tiny physical size and minimal cost of memory modules these days, I agree completely.

Micro SDs are all well and good, but I wouldn't want to be removing and replacing them in the field on a cold day... just too small and fiddly for my big fingers.
Micro SD with an SD adapter seems to work well enough for those who like the smaller card...

As I said in my previous post, it's not within the moderators' remit to do anything other than ensure posting is within the forum rules and marketplace rules. That's what we do, and it's all that we're mandated to do. We're certainly not going to censor a member's thread or post for mentioning something they believed might be a valid rumour - even if some of us, @Adam included, think that rumour has no merit. Those that think so can simply post a courteous reply - like @Adam did - and move on. Folks, let's please return to the subject of the thread. For those that have no desire to take part in a friendly and constructive discussion on the matter, now would be a good time to bow out, to avoid further disruption to the thread. Many thanks :) |

That's the best choice, I think.
Is that a focus-assist light I see in the middle of the dog's forehead? :p
EDIT: Hmmm, looks like it has wi-fi too :D

No worries, Larry - I had no problem with your post specifically, which simply stated that this is a rumour (whether-or-not it has merit, is another thing) :)

Thanks for the vote of support.
As moderators, we have no say over what gets discussed. We're mandated to ensure posts and general behaviour stay within the boundaries of our forum rules and marketplace rules, for the benefit of our members... such as yourself. If we did anything more than that, we'd be stepping out of line.
If you think the rules should be changed, please take that up with @Adam, our site owner. And if you don't like discussing topics you think are fake or irrelevant for months and months, I respectfully suggest you simply don't join the threads in question :)
Oh, and please contact @Adam or the mods directly if you have any issues with the way we're handling things... No need to discuss it publicly here on the forums.

With respect to the OP, whether-or-not we think the rumour has any basis - and, personally, I don't - he and our other members are quite free to discuss it. These forums are a social meeting place, and so long as discussions are friendly and respectful, there's no harm done. After all, we don't have to take part in them if we don't want to :)

I'm hopeful the new model will combine both (M)irrorless (A)nd (R)eflex (T)echnology. They will name it the "K-MART"...

The rumour mill is simply calling the new model "K-3III" to signify that it's the K-3II replacement. Ricoh hasn't made an announcement of any sort yet, but we have to call it something until it arrives :p Assuming the rumour is true (and that's a big assumption), they've plenty of time to come up with a suitable model designation :)

That's the pickle we find ourselves in, for sure. We'd love to see "leaps and bounds" improvements in some areas, yet we don't want to risk the solid platform we've come to rely on, limitations and all.
As for the rumour... I'm torn between thinking it's a genuine rumour versus a poke in the ribs to let Ricoh know they really need to have the K-3II replacement ready some time next year...
