Heh, on New Year's Eve 2010 I was out shooting the fireworks at the Space Needle. Got back home really late, tried to sleep a few short hours and then got back up and drove to Kerry Park to shoot the first sunrise of 2011. And that was in the middle of one of those cold snaps (~20F) with nice clear skies we get in the winter. Even with gloves, my hands did not appreciate that one bit...
And it was far more than worth the epic struggle out of bed and every last frozen finger. One of my favorite shots ever. The colors of sunrises over Seattle and the mountains are mindblowing. Much better than sunsets IMO, especially in winter when the city and Rainier are backlit (if you're lucky enough to get clear skies), and haze is low. Plus there's the added bonus of hardly any people around at that time, as opposed to fighting the swarms that invade the park for a spot at sunset. ;)
