As a "graduate" from the Cosina to the Pentax, I can compare the A50/1.2 to the FA50/1.4... when I get home. ;) Assuming no one does it before me, I'll try to remember to check that in the next day or two.

Since we're doing car shots, here's a couple that I took with my old Cosina F1.2.

Here's a couple others from the Cosina.

Just for the record in case anyone wonders - the buyer of the $1,001 Cosina received the lens a week or so ago and positive feedback was exchanged. I am happy that the transaction is complete (and my wife is happy with the new red K-x that it paid for!) :) I didn't think that it was a scam but there's always a little nervousness when something sells for that much more than expected.

That may be. The one who almost won it is buying quite a number of fast Leica glass (and bodies) and a cine lens or two - obviously has a thing for fast lenses (don't we all!) and perhaps is using some of them on an m4/3rds body. Certainly the thought of using all those lenses on an NX body gets me a bit excited... even though I'll never be able to afford them!

Wallyb, thanks for your response. I just chaff a little when I am accused of some pretty slimy tactics without the benefit of the doubt! I'm sure you understand.

One last note... I figured the auction would be sure to generate some discussion, that's why I was checking this thread tonight! :)

I certainly am an honest person. Heck, I felt guilty looking at my auction later for my side lens photo not showing the aperture ring - I was afraid someone might think I was trying to find that it was not an "A" lens! I don't do a ton of selling, so when I do, I make an effort to give lots of details and example photos, more so that you see with most lenses that go for sale.

Anyway - sure, I think the price paid was extravagant. But who am I to argue? Remember that in addition to the $1,001 bid, there was a $1,000 bid. The person who put that bid in only put in two bids - one for $500, and one for $1,000. I looked at some of his other activity, and this was one of the cheapest lenses he's bought! He's bought many 4-figure lenses and at least one 5-figure lens. Obviously a well-heeled collector. The winning bidder started low and kept putting in higher and higher bids. I was sure the other guy was going to win, but eventually he was beat by $1. Would I prefer for the winning bidder for have more feedback? Sure. Does that change the fact that all the communication I've had with him has been above board? Or that he paid for the lens immediately and is using a PayPal confirmed address?

If you want to talk about bid percentages - well, of course most are with me! He's only bid on three items - one with 1 bid, one with 7 bids, and on mine, he did 31 bids. He's been registered on eBay for 5 months - not a long time but certainly a long time for a phony account to exist.

Also, if I was in it to try to screw anyone, why would I link here, where a search of the completed Marketplace listings would give it any what they've gone for in the past?

One last note - apparently it is getting pretty rare/scarce. Again, none on eBay for a while and it's been several months since one was listed for sale here (not counting Miserere's whose was sold without an ad.) Considering the volume of lenses that move through this place and eBay, that's pretty unusual.

The price even made me second-guess myself - is there something I don't know about the lens? :D But I'd be crazy to keep it at that price!

That was my lens - I was as shocked as anyone at what it went for!

Hey wallyb, I will happy to accept your apology for your rash assumptions. I don't know any of the bidders. What happened was two well-heeled buyers both wanted the lens and they duked it out. (As the seller, I could see who made the bids - and the one who didn't get it has been buying many very expensive lenses over the past few months, so I have no doubt that he was legitimate.) There have not been any Cosina 55s on eBay in recent times (you can't find any in completed listings) and even here, none have been listed for sale since September as far as I can see.

I was happy when it hit $250 - that meant that it paid for itself. When it topped $350, that paid for the A 50mm that I replaced it with. When it kept going up, I couldn't believe it. As for it being a scam - the money was in my PayPal account within a few minutes of the auction ending and is on its way to my bank account, and the lens is packed and is going in the mail tomorrow. To celebrate, I ordered a red K-x for my wife... and, and I had already bought a Lensbaby Composer a couple days ago. :)

Oh, and as for my being legitimate - again, check my eBay feedback. 100% including having sold some other lenses. I also bought and at least tried to sell stuff through the marketplace here. In fact, I will be putting my K20D up as soon as I can find the darn missing manual which disappeared around Christmas. I can assume you that I have never used any shills to artificially inflate the price of anything!
