Australia used many paddle steamers on the Murray and Darling Rivers. I have never seen a stern paddle wheeler, all the steamers that I have knowledge of were/are side paddle wheelers. I could be wrong (I often am)
There were used primarily for agricultural production and often towed barges which were also .loaded with wool bales etc.
There are still a number on the Murray now, used as tourist boats - day trippers, dinner and event venues, and also some with overnight accomodation for longer cruises. Some are restored or rebuild, some are reproductions.

Hi Racer.
Enjoy retirement.
I've heard many say that they didn't know how they had time to go to work previously!

This would be a sister ship, judging by the name;
- entering Port Philip delivering new vehicles to Melbourne.

Nice ones Mickmac.
Just the right amount of blur on the props (IMHO)
My brother's first camera was Praktica IV and his first day out with it was at an airshow which included a DC3.
He cranked the shutter up to max 1/500 and the props show no blur at all. It looked out of place in midair with props stationary.

Interesting conversation here. These issues seem to be endemic throughout the western world. Those primarily responsible for such disasters seem to avoid any consequences. The blame game almost always wins. If people were held to account more often, better decisions might be made in future projects.

The western half of the Victoria coast is known as the shipwreck coast.
Dave is a fair way to the west of that, but wrecks are pretty well all the way along our coast.
The sea near Dave's wreck funnels into Bass Strait which is probably the most treacherous bit of water around our coastline.
Why? bad water, lack of navigation aids, tired vessels having travelled half way around the world, and probably poor seamanship/poor maintenance/poor whatever.
