There is one he posted recently where the focus is on her rear end and not her eyes, but I assume he was just distracted.

A friend of mine who teaches a couple of photography classes at a community college asked me about some good sample images. Students are always asking her about ASP-C vs Full Frame and how many megapixels do I need? I sent her to your Flickr page since you have 24MP Fuji and Sony files as well as 36MP K-1 files and you processing is pretty consistent across all of the images. She says she showed her students +/-30 images from your Flickr stream as wells as images from some other photographers who shoot m/4.3 and some from other APS-C and FF cameras. It was approximately 100 images and 100 students (3 classes) rating images simply on the subjective image quality. I don't know anything about the methodology or scoring, but she did tell me that your K-1 (all taken with the FA* 85mm) files where scored the highest by the students. I know 100 students at a community college doesn't mean very much, but I thought that it was interesting. The second highest came from a Nikon Df with a Nikon 58mm F/1.4. Third place was the A7III (images from multiple photographers). Canon 7DII took 4th and images from a Panasonic G9 took 5th. Images from a Fuji XT-2 took 6th. She says the difference between 3rd and 6th was literally 2 votes each. Not significant at all. The only two that stood out were the Pentax K-1 and the Nikon Df and both of those had the best glass which has more to do with it than the sensor. I thought it was interesting and I've been meaning to pass it on for a few months now. She was only selecting images that she thought were really excellent regardless of sensor size or brand, so it kinda of makes sense that there wasn't much difference in scoring across all the images. She didn't select any bad or average images.

No noise reduction, no exposure adjustment, no white balance adjustment, no color adjustment, no clarity or contrast adjustment. Sharpening is set to 60, the default Adobe color profile is applied, and exported it as a JPEG. Single Einstein strobe with 51" soft-silver PLM overhead. Quick test.

One of the issues I had with the K-3 RAW files was the red channel bleeding into magenta. The K-1 is doing a much better job with skin tones and the red channel. This image only has sharpening a slight exposure adjustment, and I pulled the red channel down -10 to pull a little out of the red plastic and what was being reflected back. The Sigma 85mm is tack sharp. No lens profile applied. Very happy with the embedded color profile at this point. Hopefully DXO releases an update to support the K-1 and new lenses very soon.

I'm very impressed so far. The improvements over the K-3 are significant. My only complaint is that AF-C tracking is still not in the same league as cameras like the D750. I have the D-FA* 70-200mm and I had hoped that lens would be a bit snappier than it is. AF-S point-to-point is very quick with all of my lenses. The AF-S is much improved over the K-3.

The RAW files are a bit muted (DNG - LR5) and I like that much more than the K-3 colors or my Sony A7II. I still have a lot of work to do to familiarize myself with the camera and all of my presets I have developed for RAW processing need to be redone. The VSCO film presets are also working a lot better with the K-1 than they did with the K-3. I stopped using VSCO on my K-3 files because the colors where way, way off and VSCO doesn't make color profiles for Pentax, but the VSCO standard profiles are working a lot better. The below shot has not processing except sharpening to the eyes and the Royal Gold 100 VSCO film preset.

Checking for focus accuracy and color on with my Sigma 85mm. LR5 only supports the Embedded color profile for RAW files, but these are so much better than the K-3. No magenta cast to skin tones. This image only has some sharpening applied. No adjustment to WB, NR, exposure, contrast or saturation.

Testing out the AF-C of the K-1 with the D-FA* 70-200mm. No NR or lens profile applied. Very basic processing.

The whole point of in-body image stabilization is to avoid this problem. Yes, Nikon and A7r users had this issue when shooting with unstabilized lenses, but it won't be nearly as much of a problem with the K-1. The SR system is accurate enough for pixel shift technology (1 pixel) then it should be good enough for me to get sharp images after 3 or 4 beers.

Smaller formats have to be magnified more when equalizing for final output. An unstabilized 24MP APS-C camera is going to be more prone to show movement than a K-1 with its stabilized 36MP sensor when printed at A3. You have to enlarge the APS-C image many times more to print at A3 than you do the FF so movement (all defects) will be more apparent the larger you print.
