M4/3 isn't going anywhere. The advantages that M4/3 offer have not changed and smaller sensors usually get the technology advances 1st. Olympus is about to launch the OMD-EM1X in 3 days and it appears to be a bold move. I don't think they would make a M4/3 body with a built-in v-grip unless they had something pretty special. Rumored to be $3,000 it had better be pretty special.

Better build quality and ergonomics for one. Sony is definitely lacking in those areas.

Panasonic is a huge company and m43 is pretty mature. Most of the technology going into the GH-5 can scale to FF. Lenses is where Panasonic will have to dedicate resources and with m43 as mature as it is, they should have plenty of resources for lens development.


Olympus has patented 7 FF mirrorless lenses in the last 5 years. They are working on something and 2019 is the 100th anniversary of the company. Could Olympus join Sony with an FE body? E-mount is an open mount and Sony has a really good relationship with Olympus.
