We gave the old 2004 Forester XT to my son and bought a new Crosstrek last year. Great little car! I would have preferred the larger engine they now offer but this was the year before that was available. I could see trading up one day if they make a turbo version although my wife doesn't care much about that. I like it for all the passes we drive. The Crosstrek does pretty well on the mild and mid 4x4 roads which comes in handy regularly.

Mill Creek valley last weekend.
I came to this spot after our September snowstorm and had a terrifying drive back down this road in the very saturated grease-mud. I managed to keep the truck on the road but it got dicey for a while there! IMGP9227-Edit by Matt Burt, on Flickr

It was beautiful with a clearing storm yesterday morning but I didn't have much time to go somewhere more scenic so I just took a little detour on my ride to work.

Taken from the office roof. That's US Hwy 50 with the log truck.

I bet a lot of towns of a certain age would look similar, landmarks aside. Gunnison was an Old West town and the supply hub for the surrounding areas in the 1880s. The streets were planned wide in anticipation of it becoming big as the state capital and also to accommodate maneuvering teams of oxen. Lots of little pieces of that old character are still around.
