Wow, those look great. The cutout one is especially slick. Nice!

They didn't elaborate. They just said that they couldn't do it this time.

This was also a KEH repair and when it failed again (8 months or so later) they had me send it in and then said they couldn't fix it. But they did refund my original repair bill which was the right thing to do even if it was disappointing. They offered to send it to Precision and put my refund toward that more expensive repair but I just needed the money or a fixed lens at that point so I took the money.
So besides the repair that didn't last, KEH was great and fair. I'd consider them again in the future for other repairs.
Good luck with yours!

I loved mine too until the AF went out twice (unrelated to the mod and somewhat unusual from what I hear).
I'd love an updated version of this lens with a DC focus motor and everything else pretty much the same.
I'll probably still get my AF fixed again because it's a great lens and even greater after the FF mod.

That was me but I don't think it had anything to do with the mod since it worked for 6 months or so after doing it. I think my SDM just failed eventually.

I'm not ready to part it out myself because if I remove the baffle the rest becomes a lot less valuable!
So I guess I'd want to sell or trade as-is, at least for now. Just thought I'd put this here in case anyone was looking for something like this.

My modded 60-250 has AF problems and I haven't quite decided what to do with it. KEH couldn't fix it and they recommended Precision.
Before I send it to them to be gone for who knows how long, tying up my money, I think I'm going to replace it. Maybe with a 70-200/2.8 (probably Tamron for now due to budget constraints).
So if anyone might be interested in it for the modified baffle, or to repair yourself, I may willing to make a deal.

That looks great. I wanted to do that initially but just took an easier route. I don't have precise enough tools.

Not in my unscientific test. I'll keep an eye out. That test shot was with the hood.

Well I took the plunge. Once I got in there I just decided to dremel away the flange and it all seems to work again. I used some Testor flat black model paint that comes in a pen to touch up the bare metal parts. Got it back together and it looks good!
Thanks for all the contributors who figured this out and tested it!

I'd like to try this route when I get my lens back from repair. I'll definitely report back what I find if/when I do!

But would it really matter? I suppose it depends on how bent it gets.

I wonder if it could be done with some very precise tin snips. Then it could be cleaned up with a file if necessary. I'd love to find a way to do it that doesn't generate any filings if possible.

True but I'm thinking I might as well try and I could always cut the whole thing out if it didn't go well. I'm thinking I could make a template rectangle and use that to mark where to cut.
What kind of material is the flange made of anyway? Seems like it's plastic which should make it relatively easy to work with.

That is my understanding. Or you could just cut out triangles only for the parts that block the corners of the frame and leave most of the rest. I may try that approach but I'm getting my 60-250 repaired so it will focus again first.

Interesting idea about just cutting the corners. Anyone try that yet?
