Background, light direction, aperture, distance to subject, and distance from subject to background are all factors.
But when they come together this lens does some interesting things with those ingredients!

Yeah, no shortage of character and I think it's a little sharper than the 44-2. The key to swirly bokeh is as much technique as the lens IMO.
