There is no 'control' or setting to adjust the viewfinder, it is TTL or "Through The Lens" so the only thing that can be done to brighten it is to use faster glass an example of which would be something like the DA 50mm f/1.8. The largest opening on your kit lens is f/3.5. The largest opening on the DA 50mm f/1.8 is f/1.8 and on apertures the smaller the number the bigger the opening and the more light that gets through to the viewfinder.
And just to make sure, you are talking about the viewfinder not LiveView, right?
