is the DSLR doomed for extinction?

+1 LOL.

At some point EVF will be "good enough" for many people, and maybe better than a poor OVF. High end DSLRs with good OVF will be hard to beat for many years yet. For pros and enthusiasts I think OVF has a good run yet. But on the lower end EVF will continue to eat away at market share. Younger people growing up with ithingies will not be as adverse to EVF as us old folks.

Mirrorless without an EVF? Not for me, but lots of people seem to use them with no problem. I've handed my DSLR to people who asked "how do I turn the viewfinder on?", they had no idea what the "little hole" at the top of the camera was for.
