Ricoh official update the K-mount roadmap

Yes, it does.

Perhaps the idea that the K-1 was a project pushed by engineering is true... if true, and also giving (assuming true) that they had a fight to convince management this was a good idea, perhaps that is all they could get? Once they realized it was selling well, they scrambled to get more lenses out? If your funding was really strict they might wait to see how well the K-1 sells before investing more in that system..

Mid to late next year at the earliest. No, I don't know more than you.. but looking at the speed of getting this 50mm out the door, and knowing there is an 85mm following after it, I can fairly safely say the wide angle won't be released anytime soon.

What Kunzite was saying is these portable computing devices we have now are not used seriously yet have much more computing power than of decades ago with huge computers with small computing ability. It is ironical.

Yep same design, different brand name. The Irix however is not associated with Samyang/Rokinon/Bower/etc as they are their own design team out of Switzerland (but manufacturing completed in South Korea).

I think I've decided to give the Irix 15mm another try. It is only 400 dollars and accepts 95mm circular filters. For the price of the Rokinon 20mm (that accepts 77mm filters that I already own) I could get the Irix 15mm and two 95mm filters. Plus if I want a 'zoomed in' photo I can always crop with the Irix.

Key is getting a decent copy as the QA on all of these ultrawide primes seems to be rather poor...

Me too. I think our best options today are the Irix 15 or Samyang 14 or 20mm primes... or that pricey 15-30 zoom. Looking at the lens database here, it doesn't seem Pentax really has done a ton with wide or ultrawide angle (20 and below) lenses. Nothing rectilinear and wider than that since A series days.. 30+ years ago.

I find that a little odd for a system that is 'geared' more towards outdoorsy landscapery rugged type shooting.

Either way, from what I see of the photos, if you get a decent Irix 15mm you will be fine. I bought one recently and it wouldn't focus to infinity.. but the vendor I bought from are taking it back and giving me a refund. I might try it again from a different vendor.. or get the Rokinon 20mm since it accepts 77mm filters. But not a lot of info or reviews on that one.. and nearly but a peep here on PF.

But the roadmap is similar to the cake.. just look at that DA wide angle zoom as proof.

I wouldn't get too big headed and consider any of us wise on the topic of what Ricoh/Pentax are doing..

Because the camera (body) itself is oriented to landscape shooting. It doesn't mean the lens lineup is in parity.

I agree with you.. it is odd to not have any wide primes in the lineup.. instead they are rehashing lengths where there are already a number of viable candidates.. I still welcome them because if the trend is to those particular lenses, it only helps Pentax as a whole.

Basically, take the Pentax system as it is when buying.. because there are no real promises of any more than what you see. WYSIWYG for sure.

I'd never spend thousands on a roadmap, timeline, rumor, or even interview stating certain products were coming out Soon(tm). You're setting yourself up for disappointment.. major disappointment. Even if the products ARE released, there is no guarantee that they way they are implemented will be satisfactory to your wants and wishes.

Let the speculation commence!

I'll kick it off with a speculation that the secret is updated DA lenses with PLM and perhaps weather sealing.

I can think of ways to do this in a more discussionary manner instead of What about X and now What about Y and now oh What about Z.

Instead.. Pentax has had good success with their weather sealed DSLRs can you talk about the value of ruggedness in a DSLR? (Then follow up with an actual user question) And with respect to the strength of the ruggedness in Pentax DSLRs, has there been a movement towards making the K mount prime lens lineup just as rugged with the adoption of weather sealing?

Ask like that.. it is more of a discussion in a coffee shop than basement interrogation.. even include some non-questions, just remarks and let them respond as breathers between questions.

The issue isn't entirely the interviewee but of the interviewer. The questions the PF interviewer provided were very pointed and direct.. 20 questions interrogation style. The questions the DPR interviewer provided were more friendly... as if it was a discussion between two people.

I'm so happy about that. One of the lenses that was appealing to me was the cheap, but pretty sharply Tamron SP 70-300mm (not the garbage non SP variants). I'm sure the Pentax 70-300 will be very nice. Though probably not seen until next year at the earliest?

And I think your secret was SR unlocked in movie mode on the KP and upcoming K-1 firmware.

Well, Adam never stated one way or the other if the surprises would be welcome...

asahiman mentioned a new K-1 firmware update in a couple of months.. so maybe it has to do with that. Or perhaps back porting KAF4 to further models. Or Ricoh is tired of listening to our obnoxious, whiny banter and are getting out of the camera business just to avoid us.
