How do you figure? It seems to have the same level of productivity.. which is no productivity. Because we're collectively just arguing subjective, personal opinion. It is no different than arguing blue is better than red.

4k video would be nice though.. if only for cropping or panning.. get those long, Ken Burns style documentary pans. :p

Speaking of which...

Why does a chicken coop have only 2 doors?

Because if it had four doors it would be a...... chicken sedan! :p

I hope you get the camera you've been waiting for very long to receive! A hybrid viewfinder with more focusing aids and the ability to use CDAF to micro adjust lenses for PDAF would be super. You'd get some of the niceties of mirrorless ilcs without having to switch mounts.

I really do hope they update the DA* zooms and some of the cheaper primes that are still on screwdrive sooner than later though. They seem so antiquated today...

What I think would be neat is a modular GR. Left or Right hand grips as well as a grip somehow containing an EVF (for those that want it). If the 'core of the camera was just a cube consisting of sensor, lens, and processor then everything around it could be modularized.

Is this what happens when there are no new products to discuss ..we get a heavily invested discussion on the K-1 extra dial?

Except during kickoff, punting, point after touchdown attempts, and field goal attempts. All of these involve the ball ('egg') being struck by a players foot. :p

That said, if we want to take your joke to another level, let's name all sports in the same manner... for instance -- baseball becomes batball or gloveball, tennis becomes racketball, racket ball becomes.. racketball, volleyball becomes handball, ice hockey becomes stickpuck on ice, rugby becomes brawlegg, cricket becomes clubball, netball is actually handball, handball is handball, basketball is handball.. phew.. I'm glad they differentiate.

If your what-if scenario is based on them launching all of that, likely a handful of the die hards here calling out other forum members that they perceived as being negative and shaming them for being 'wrong' (despite never making the claims they are held to). That's generally how it seems to work online.

Uhh but if they launch all of that then I'm guessing most everyone would be pretty happy.

If they do not launch anything.. probably the same old the way it's been for the past couple of years.. the diehards say be patient maybe CP+.

I agree. But I was told, fairly recently, on this forum to stop using logic and thinking situations through when questioning the legitimacy of some information...

I can understand the sentiment. But I suspect no one from Ricoh or Pentax brand read any of these posts. As a result, it is just us moaning and wailing at each other for no good reason. These threads change nothing but for maybe a few folks blood pressure temporarily...

I believe you have just started us on that path with this comment. :p

I agree though.. we are a broad based group with very different desires out of a camera system. And there is no right way with respect to the ideal camera. So we'll always see cheers and jeers regardless of what is released. That isn't a PF issue though, that's a human issue.

Currently, I think the Pentax brand is in a strange state of flux.. they seemed to abandon (I know, some of you disagree that's fine but this is my view) the old K-7, K-5, K-3 type cameras with the release of the K-1 followed by a similarly designed KP. Then a lull in releases, as if they are trying to find themselves. Maybe that is the reason for the 'delay' -- they took time to reassess the market, trying to find where they fit in this current camera market.

Really just a KP in a K-3 body with some minor updates, a deeper buffer, and a larger burst rate would be nice. Just to have something 'fresh' on the market in that camera tier/type to say Pentax has an offering.

But I wonder if roadmaps will be altered somewhat soon.. I cannot foresee Ricoh trickling 1 maybe 2 products out per year from now on. So I think the past couple of years have been anomalies. Hopefully we see an increase in launches into next year..

No doubt and I agree. However, that still doesn't negate the potential Ricoh decided to reimage the Pentax brand with the K-1 and the KP, got rebuff from their customers, and back peddled in interviews soon after. It is all speculation from everyone here, but that is my thought.

Or my muckmen theory..

I think they do understand.. they're just trying to be slick by reasking the question in a different manner. :p

But yes that is the nice part of padding time estimates... if you do come under you look like a champ. But don't do that too often otherwise they might catch on and start expecting a little early... I find corporateyness is both a help and a hindrance to the corporation sadly. Too many paradigms and swimlanes, pivot tables, and quad charts... when a team could probably get the job done a lot quicker without the stress of management bugging them incessantly about 'are we there yet?!' like some kids in the backseat of the family truckster on the way to walley world.

This is one of the more ...interesting.. aspects to being a programmer (that and unhygienic geeky folk). I can never figure out how long something is going to take to code until after I've performed the work. There is no shop guide as in repairing cars... guide says this is an hour job, so I'm charging for an hour of labor. haha None of that because the solution hasn't been invented until I get busy.

So then management asks.... "So give me a percentage of completion" which is equally as difficult to ascertain.

What ends up happening is we high ball the guesstimate we pluck out of thin air to allow for as many of the gotchas as we can reasonably fathom. But even then that doesn't always cover them...

Yet the reasons why we don't have a K-3 II successor is a parlor guessing game... maybe muckmen from the Nebular IV quadrant ate the blueprints of the camera. It is as good as any other guess.

The bottom line is there is no K-3 II successor out today, nor one promised, or one formally announced yet. We can hope one is announced at Photokina and if it doesn't come hope one is announced at CP+ and if one is not announced hope it is announced on it's own in the Q2 or Q3... wash, rinse, repeat like the past couple of years.

I would like to see them do more on-sensor AF stuff and throw in a hybrid viewfinder though... eventually. Having more focusing aids in the viewfinder would be excellent for the old A and M primes.

Well... your argument is with Merriam Webster dictionary... as that is where I pulled the definition. So you'll need to tell them they're wrong.

I agree with what you're saying about the K-3 III though. There is no formal announcement of it. They might be working on it behind the scenes, along with 8 other prototypes that we never see or know about. Or they might have just been tickling the ear of a western interviewer at CP+.

If that tickles some peoples' fancy, fine. But I'm waiting for the official announcement before I realistically consider it. Until then it doesn't exist.

Though what strikes me, reading some of the posts in this thread, is this camera can't be all of the things desired at the same time.

Here is a definition of vaporware:

"In the computer industry, vaporware (alt. vapourware) is a product, typically computer hardware or software, that is announced to the general public but is never actually manufactured nor officially cancelled. Use of the word has broadened to include products such as automobiles."
Vaporware - Wikipedia

and

"Definition of vaporware
: a computer-related product that has been widely advertised but has not and may never become available"
Vaporware | Definition of Vaporware by Merriam-Webster

Until a product is developed and released, it could be considered vaporware. It isn't FUD.

Agreed. But, in general, providing personal opinions about likes and dislikes of camera hardware, brands, or any other subjective thought with perfect strangers as if it matters to them is kind of silly too... so much of the time spent in conversation here is rather silly and otherwise unfruitful.

OK on upping the post count though... seems to have slowed a bit.. which I was concerned earlier in the month would potentially occur..

I'm not sure how long or extensively you've used the internet for social interaction, but people generally love to give their opinions online so this is normal. It is pretty easy to generally overlook those kind of posts if you realize they're going to happen and, if it becomes a common song for particular folks, hit the ignore user feature if it is that aggravating.

I don't want to put anyone on that list, and I'm sure you don't either, but I'm hoping you realize that nipping at people you think are nipping at Pentax or aren't cheerful enough to your standard is annoying to read too.

I don't see anything beachgardener said in that message that was negative or threatening... he just said he wants to know more about when/if and what Ricoh release soon because he is soon to make a decision on whether to wait for it or go with a KP. He didn't say anything about leaving Pentax... there was no ultimatum.

And I agree with him.. a nice tease would be great to create more interest and conversation (which could further the forum efforts this month)... :)

What about ranting about the so-called ranting? Is that different?

I think you would be a lot less stressed if you just ignored the pleas for a new camera.... but I see it as a positive, at least there is demand for this next gen body.. when and if it ever arrives..

I know some that have been waiting for 3 or 4 years now.... so I can sympathize with their frustration. It is perfectly understandable to me. Windows of opportunity (in life and photography) are only so long.. they are finite... so we cannot wait for ever on a hope that has never been floated by the people who would make it happen (in this case a camera). Money is rather finite too.. so it can be a big decision on picking a camera body...

beachgardner is just expressing he is growing tired of waiting for something that might happen when he could buy a camera, right now, that would happen if he ordered it. But it seems he would rather wait if the unreleased yet camera is going to offer a much higher performance over the camera that can be had right now if the wait isn't much longer ...

We're all speculating.. myself included.

I think DPR was correct when they initially reported the KP was the K-3 II successor. They supposedly got that news from Ricoh reps. I think Pentax tried to go a different route with a 'premium' type legacy inspired body and were met with a backlash. After that it was 'discovered' there was a lost-in-translation on the product release announcement and it was now NOT the K-3 II successor. haha I don't think so!

That is, my suspicion is it isnt taking long but they started on an actual K-3 II type successor when the KP was launched and it was met with rather large resistance. That is, if they actually are working one.. Ricoh reps have been known to appease interviewers with responses that cater to their interviewees requests. The way I see it if the product isn't released, it doesn't exist.

So I'd go with a KP or a K-3II if you are interested in a Pentax crop body. Those are your only 'upscale' retail choices.
