Maybe they dampened the II more over the original K-3. However there is a nice youtube where the guy has a K-30, K-5, and K-3 and records each with a sound meter. The K-30 is loudest followed by K-3 and then K-5. For that test the K-5 looked to be around about 5 decibels softer than the K-3.. its noticeable.
But yes that K-5 shutter is lower and thicker sounding.. very satisfying click. Which is odd to say ...

I did too.. well K-x to K-5 II. Then, years later, I bought a K-r as a backup and was shocked at how noisy it was comparatively. I had forgotten..
I hope the K-3 II successor goes back to a really quiet shutter...

I don't really use this camera anymore.. opting for another brands make and model.
But I just pulled this out of my camera cabinet and took a couple shots inside while I was organizing gear. I was instantly reminded how smooth and silky the shutter is (behind the obnoxious whirring of the screwdriven DA35 mounted on it ).
From youtube I see that the K-3 was a little louder and higher pitched.. The K-5 series was really the pinnacle imo... what a dream.
