Jeffrey Thompson Psycho-Sensory Integration #4
It's a brainwave and music CD geared towards healing, supposedly. I've had it for a while but haven't used it as yet. His CD's are usually very good though and given I was sick all week I figured I could use a little sound healing about now. Jeffrey Thompson is also responsible for the Brainwave Mind Voyages, Brainwave Symphony etc. He's a veteran in the field of brainwave entrainment, very well regarded I think. He's been doing this kind of thing since the 80's, combining music, sounds and brainwaves.

The ORIGINAL Fright Night I-II OST, specifically a personal mix there of with all the songs plus the isolated scores. Favorite movies, favorite scores. This mix or some incarnation of it has been on my walkman tape player, CD players, my Mp3 players, since FN I-II originally debuted. I never take it off. I probably have about 1500 soundtracks. I've been collecting scores since I was about 10, but some of them have a permanent place on my players and on the extra HD in my computer. Dream Window is my favorite track I think but I also like the longer version. Come to Me.... You Tube |

There are a lot of covers of the CTM song with vocals. Most of them sing it better than Brad Fiedel....

More weird stuff. As brainwave CD's go this is an older one, but I think it's a good one. This CD I think is the digital equivalent of marijuana, and by that it actually works at least it does on me. This brainwave CD actually has a decent impact in terms of reducing on my pain levels. First play I find my pain levels decreasing. If I listen twice? I get stoned off my arse, no kidding. (Mind you I'm a lightweight when it comes to chemicals. Half a glass of wine can get me half arsed drunk...) There's a program out there called I-doser that has a marijuana track that supposedly does this too, but it doesn't work nearly as well for me as this CD does. I could listen to that 5X over and I might feel a bit sleepy but that's about it. This one, I'm pretty sure it actually does everything MJ supposedly does to you to me, except it doesn't give me the munchies. It does make me feel warm, mostly free of pain, and well, buzzed... :P Digital Drug. Binaural Beats Digital Drugs. Total Mind Buzz - A Natural High. |

I'm listening to one of Dane Spotts Transcendental Mind CD's. It's a binaural brainwave training thing. This particular one is all about healing and pain control. I'm listening to it rather than taking a Vico. I have most of his CD's and like them. They're older but they've always been pretty effective for me. I used to do Holosync but lately I'm doing the Lifeflow program because I like it better than Holosync.
Yup, I'm listening to some weird stuff again. :P
FYI, this is not new territory for me. Years ago as a kid I started out using some self-hypnosis and subliminal tapes by Dick Sutphen. I still use his stuff actually sometimes. Later I got into brainwave stuff. I have a lot of the Monroe CD's and the Brainwave Mind Voyage CD's. BMV #24 (Sacred Healing Frequencies) is my favorite of the bunch. Some 40% of people who these CD's they don't work at all. Some people (about 50%) it does but the effects are pretty mild. They get relaxed, maybe feel a light buzz, that's it. Then there are those lucky people like me (a mere 10%) who apparently can totally relax and completely trip out using brainwaves and music in just the right way. Strobe light machines also can help some people go further with it but me, I don't like that. Strobes make me sick and dizzy. Not exactly a wonderful feeling...
If I stick with it, do a CD or two every night, I can reduce my dependency upon pain killers to a pretty good degree. It's only when I get to a pretty bad level of pain in the Summer that I find I might still need both. One a scale of 1-10 usually I am at a 10 or busting that scale and calling it effin 11 before I will resort to Vico over CD's and the odd Tylenol. Lately I've basically been doing "11" almost daily because of muscle tension/sinus migraines and the record breaking heat making my arthritis pain really bad. Usually I'm not this bad until July at least but with the temperatures already in the 90's I'm just plain miserable. I've resorted to doing more CD's and doing the odd Vico/muscle relaxant combo when the migraines really start up.
But this is what I do, when I don't want to take meds that just wipe me out and bug my stomach...

Well, I got to see a sneak preview of Penny Dreadful 02x01 earlier but alas and alack there was no sign of Dorian Gray. No orgies, no love scenes, not even a hint of Reeve Carney smiling wistfully at his picture of Eva Green a la the season 2 trailer, sigh. It was a keen disappointment. So I am consoling myself by listening to Carney and Mr Green instead, because I like Mr Carney's lovely voice as much as I like the rest of his um assets. :P Interestingly enough he is one of the few people who can cover a Lennon and McCartney song that I can stand to listen to. Usually I hate it, but not this guy. I do like him a lot as an actor but I actually like him as a musician better. I really wish Carney would do another CD... You Tube |

In terms of Tangerine Dream CD's this one really divides the people who like them. At the time it was released it was very different from their previous works. A lot of TD fans loved it, but quite a few absolutely loathed it as well. I liked it and nearly 20 years after I first heard it I still listen to it quite often. I think it's a great CD. The vocalist is wonderful and I like the concept behind it. You Tube |

I just got done watching NYE with Adam Lambert and Queen. He's doing Freddy justice and then some. Adam Lambert is the only reason I've ever watched a whole season of AI. I can't stand the show normally but someone clued me in early on and I watched every episode to see him. I was pissed when he lost but the way I see it he's been totally showing up the ones who put him in 2nd place. 2 high ranking CD's and now he's fronting QUEEN? I could not be more pleased for him. He's a nice kid, an all around great entertainer, has one of the best voices I've ever heard. He's actually worked very hard for this success. It's all over You Tube if you guys want to check it out. It's definitely worth spending the time. Thumbs WAY up!!! He's been getting accolades all day, all over the world, people are talking a lot about this concert and almost all of it is praise. IMHO it's well deserved. :)

I've always rather liked David Arkenstone. As New Age musicians go he's pretty darned good, I think. I particularly like the Earth Trybe and An Nee Mah stuff he did with his ex. I admittedly buy almost every CD they do, both of them. This one I just got and it's really something else. Now, I normally enjoy his music and will groove to it. It relaxes me, but there's really something different going on with this one.
At the risk of sounding like a total space cadet, listening to this CD it's been bit like having someone reach right in and massage my heart and throat chakra. I don't know. It could be all the didgeridoo and the tribal beats, there's quite a bit of that going on, but I have had the oddest reaction to this CD just listening to it. My solar plexus right up to my throat it's just warm and buzzing and no, I don't have heartburn. :P
This happens every time I listen to this CD. It's really, really, odd. It's like there is something going on under the music or in it, whatever it is, listening to this CD physically warms my chest up internally. It makes me feel really, really good while I am listening to it. For the record I have dozens of new age CDs, including most of his, and some that are Native American. None of them do this.
I've previously experienced something like this now and again listening to certain techno oriented didgeridoo music or to brainwave CD's, but this is really, really strong and it happens every darned time. It's also reducing my pain level a bit I think. I don't see anything listed other than native flute, some percussion instruments and some chant. No binaural beats. There's a bit of an Enigma vibe on one track but other than that I really can't hear anything that special going on that would account for this, and yet, I cannot deny that listening to this CD it's almost like doing a very strong binaural meditation CD. ACK! I can't believe I just found this. YES!!!!! I've been looking literally for YEARS for this song. I heard it once when I was very young,, They did it on a Kennedy Center special I think it was, and it just haunted me. Years later I still remembered all the lyrics. It's a song from an unfinished musical by Duke Ellington and if this is any indication of what his musical would have been like I'd have really loved to have seen it. It's a pity he never finished it. Hot d- Finally I have TWO good recordings of it. Some days, I just downright love You Tube!!!

This is a weird one, but this is what I've been listening to tonight. FYI, I've always been a soundtrack nut. I love horror OST's in particular, and have dozens. The scores for the Omen movies are some of Jerry Goldsmith's best work, IMHO. I've literally had every version of all of them out there from vinyl onwards. For a long time they were pretty rare but they were finally released to CD in full a few years ago and now anyone who wants them can easily get them. I first bought these as a kid. I used to play them all the time because I liked them and also just to drive my Mom crazy. This and the ones for the Exorcist films they used to freak her right out, lol. She could not stand horror for the most part my Mom. Me, I used to have monster movie posters on all the walls....
I like all the movies too actually except the recent remake. Yes, even the tacky TV movie they did is interesting to me. I thought the 3rd film was weaker in some ways actually but Sam Neill as Damien still makes that film a horror classic for me. Omen III it was the worst sequel in some ways and I just about loathe the ending. They totally boffed it, threw out all the rules of the first two films which was too lame, but Neill was great as Damien I thought and the musical score it's just terrific. That scene with the fox hunt, in particular I just love the score music for that. Anyway, I did my annual re-watch of the 4 older Omen films and then I pulled out my CD's of the expanded scores and listened to them too....
I defy anyone to listen to these and not get the chills.....They are some creepy scores....Oh, and I just found out that Lifetime is making an Omen based TV series. It's green lit and in production for 2015. Damien as an adult apparently. I can't say I like the idea of this. I mean LIFETIME? It will probably suck big time, but I will probably watch it anyway. No casting announcement for Damien yet. Better be a good one. The whole thing will ride on him....

I just finally got the score to Penny Dreadful. Like the series itself it's a must have for me and I'm listening to it as I type. I just totally fell in love with PD and it's beautiful score and the soundtrack definitely did not disappoint. I seldom go out of my way to actually buy seasons of my favorite shows on DVD but PD I'm getting them as they come out. The first season was just wonderful and I can't hardly wait for them to get to working on season 2.

This, just rocks. For those of you who don't know Micheal DesBarres wrote "Obsession" back in the 80's and performed it as a duet with a singer named Holly Knight. It was not a hit for him because the movie who's soundtrack it was on flopped big time. Animotion later covered it and it became a pop classic. I am much amused and delighted to see that DesBarres new band and his new CD is apparently getting some much deserved praise. His musical career is undergoing an unexpected renaissance and here he is in his 60's no less.
Needless to say being him, he's having a ball with it, grin. This is long overdue for him. I don't think he's ever gotten the attention that he probably deserves musically speaking. I first got to know him like a lot of people I think, as Murdock in MacGyver and other things, as an actor. It wasn't till he took over for Robert Palmer with Power Station that I even knew he was a singer. While I can't say I think he's got a great voice, he does have a certain unique style that just makes it totally work anyway. To me he's sort of like Rod Stewart. He's got a voice that is questionable, but still rather unique. With both of them it's all about the method delivery, not so much the pipes, and with DesBarres, this song, I think shows exactly why the people who do like him as a musician and a singer do like him.
Tongue in cheek, totally raunchy, I just had to love his "remake" of his most famous song to date. Honestly I like it better than as done by Animotion, maybe even better than his original version with Holly Knight. It really made me smile so I am sharing it here. Enjoy! You Tube |

There's one track on it of Perry's that I find a bit boring but actually I liked it mostly. I've listened to it about 4X now and with each listening the CD really grew on me. Spiritchaser was like that for me too. First couple of times I listened to it I wasn't sure I liked it but now I'm very fond of that CD, and particularly of Indus. It's very good I think, but it's not their best CD ever. There are a couple of tracks that are definitely going into my DCD mega mix folder.
As for the concert fees? Who isn't charging $80 and up a seat these days? This is why I basically quit going to see most of my favorite bands. I can't afford to go anymore. But as a one time thing I think I'd probably do it for DCD. Even pay scalper rates to get good seats. Judging from the DVD's and the live recordings I think they must do an absolutely awesome show. It would be worth going to even at $80.
I'm just so glad that they're recording anything at this point. I thought they'd never record together again. I just about cried when I saw it last night. For me it was almost like getting a new Beatles CD with all members alive and present or something. I really, really love them. Their music, I can't even begin to put a label on it. I just know it takes me to fantastic places when I listen...
