The ring itself, as many of you have guessed, is the one that's gone wrong. I have some experience with taking apart lenses, I've dissected four or five of them so far, but all Olympus OM, and this lens is extra-precious so I'd like to know what I'm doing before poking around with it.

Does anyone here have experience with taking apart an SMC Takumar 35mm f/2? My copy of the lens has a problem with the aperture mechanism, the ring cannot turn past f/2. I need to take it apart, but I need to know exactly how, and which parts I definitely need to dismantle and which parts I don't, since this lens was a hand-me-down from my dad, so I don't want to damage it.

You beat me to this post, I experienced this today with my S-M-C Takumar 135mm f/3.5.
Funny thing is, the hood was on, and isn't this lens supposed to be good at flare resistance?

Pardon me for asking, but why not?

Does anyone know if there is significant difference in the ease of turning the focusing ring between SMC and S-M-C?
My SMC 55/1.8 focusing ring seems a lot easier to twist, making focus harder, whereas the S-M-C 135/3.5 I have is nice, precise and easy to go from infinity to 1.5m.

After lurking around for ages, I decided to post something that might be remotely acceptable...
(I think either wide open or 2.8) SMC Takumar 55mm f/1.8
