Thanks Paul, that looks very close. I still haven't tried to dig out a reference book and look it up yet. The shot you pointed out looks very close.

Gaura, one I don't see often. IMGP80568 by Paleo Pete, on Flickr
Not sure what these are and I haven't tried to dig out a book yet. Had a lot going on the past couple of weeks...a week sick with the flu, had to fix a major water pipe leak, afraid of a relapse, then a trip to the Houston airport, played Saturday night then went back to Houston Monday...these are growing on the roadside on the way back about 15 miles away, first time I've seen them IMGP80597 by Paleo Pete, on Flickr

If each individual flower in the cluster is smaller than about dime size, it's OK in the Tiny Flowers thread. That's the general guideline I set, and I generally don't mind if someone fudges a bit here and there. I draw the line when I see things like 3 inch roses...Just guessing, but these might work, clusters like this generally tend to be on the small side.

Thanks. I'm not sure what's going on. Last year almost no wildflowers, on the thin side this year, except for my intentional wildflower patch. I should be seeing Mexican Hats and Indian Blankets by the thousands, instead it's just a few here and a few there. I've been wondering if it has anything to do with 3 weird winters. Last year my garden did nothing at all, nobody in this area had a decent garden, most had the same results as I did. I got nothing at all, peppers and that's it. No tomatoes or cantaloupes, almost no carrots, 3 or 4 ears of baby corn, nothing. Year before that everything did great. Everyone I've talked to had the same results, nothing. Wildflowers last year really thin around here too. My wildflower patch did very little last year. Better this year, so far the garden is doing well but no idea what will happen later on. First few marble sized cantaloupes, nothing else so far.
This year the Crimson Clover on the roadsides did ok but not the long red carpet I usually see, same for Indian Paintbrush, a few little patches here and there instead of the big bright patches everywhere I usually see. Looks like Mexican Hats and Indian Blankets are thin too, same for Black Eyed Susans, wild Sunflowers are just getting started so I can't say yet.
2013 - harsh winter here, snow on the ground 3 or 4 days and more of it than usual. Harsh winter nationwide. 2014 better here but Atlanta freeways frozen over for a week, never happened before, bad in the north all over. 2015 record snows all over the northeast, started sooner than usual and lasted longer, not too bad here at all. I'm wondering if the harsher than usual winters have been affecting wildflowers and our local gardens. Last year more spring rain than normal then it dried up and nothing until cantaloupes were close to ripe, every one I had split open and rotted. Tomatoes did nothing at all, the few I had rotted too. This year so far no excessive rain, but a couple of good ones, this one dropped a tree across the road, heavy wind, yar so soft I stuck a tractor. Still have to get it out...
Just plain weird things going on. And you're seeing loads of Mexican Hats. That's only about 4 hours west northwest from here, winters usually slightly cooler, some flooding earlier this year, not much different though. When I watch the weather, you're usually only a couple of degrees cooler in winter, not enough to make a real difference. Same here, I usually see 2 or 3 degrees difference from the Tyler TV station, no local TV here.
I think the world's just going crazy...best thing growing here is weeds...

Paul - I don't remember how big individual Mesquite flowers are, been 30 years since I saw them. Might work in the Tiny Flowers thread though, doesn't matter how large the clusters are, if the individual flowers are small enough.
This one started blooming a few days ago, taken the day before the rain started. No idea what it is, I haven't tried to look it up yet. IMGP79974 by Paleo Pete, on Flickr
Coreopsis, just started blooming about a week ago or so, same time as Mexican Hats. IMGP79773 by Paleo Pete, on Flickr
Huisache Daisy if I got the ID right, I think that's a Yellow Jacket feeding. IMGP79710 by Paleo Pete, on Flickr
Variety of Black Eyed Susan IMGP79709 by Paleo Pete, on Flickr
Mexican Hat. Interesting flowers, some look like this, some mostly dark red. Not very many right now, in 2 weeks they should be all over the place. IMGP79695 by Paleo Pete, on Flickr

I think I've posted Spiderwort before but got another decent shot recently. MAcro woth 135mm lens and 20mm extension tubes, flash used. IMGP79914 by Paleo Pete, on Flickr
Don't know what this is but I've spotted several blooming along the roadside. Macro again, same setup. Not a lot of magnification, but it gets nice sharp shots. This flower is a little over an inch across, spiderwort slightly bigger. IMGP79907 by Paleo Pete, on Flickr

Aww man you beat me to it...I've only seen a couple of Mexican Hats so far this year and no chance to stop and get a picture yet. They just started blooming here a few days ago.

Honeysuckle everywhere... IMGP78603 by Paleo Pete, on Flickr
I've never been able to ID this one, a form of Blue Eyed Grass I think but not sure. Just big enough to escape the Tiny Flowers thread... IMGP78591 by Paleo Pete, on Flickr

Texas Thistle, somewhere in East Texas on a road trip to Shreveport...stopped for gas and a potty break, these were blooming beside the parking lot. I got some seeds, they might end up in my wildflower patch. IMGP78550 by Paleo Pete, on Flickr

Some daisies, barely able to stay out of the Tiny Flowers thread, a bit bigger than a dime. From a week or so ago. Taken w ith a nifty fifty, can't remember which one, probably the K50 f1.4, I've been using it a lot recently. The M50 f1.7 does just as well, I can't decide which one I like better...usually I'll use the 1.7, since the K50 has some left over scarring from a case of fungus on the inside of the rear element. Doesn't seem to affect image quality though, I've gotten loads of nice shots with it. IMGP77812 by Paleo Pete, on Flickr IMGP77805 by Paleo Pete, on Flickr
Not sure if this one is already posted, Venus Looking Glass, macro taken with Makinon 135mm and 55mm extension tubes. These decided to volunteer in my wildflower patch. IMGP77945 by Paleo Pete, on Flickr
Two small clumps of Blue Eyed Grass has been blooming too, I guess I forgot to upload any shots, I'm trying to collect some seeds now and make sure they spread a little. Tedious job, the seed pods are tiny. Up the road a block I found dozens, spent over an hour collecting seeds yesterday, probably do it again later too. But it pays off, anything that blooms by the time Indian Paintbrushes drop seeds is gpoing in the same area, after they seed out it gets mowed. Trying to get Bluebonnets started, so far no luck...So far I've seeded Crimson Clover and Indian Paintbrushes, it already had a few Texas Toadflax and Lyre Leaf Sage, I started letting everything go till it seeded and now have Scarlet Pimpernel all over the place, Venus Looking Glass, Blue Eyed Grass, Bluets (can't stop those), and several I haven't been able to ID yet. Also just found another up the road similar to Lobelia but can't find it in my books, Red Clover hasn't done anything, Ladies Tresses Orchids didn't show yet, no telling what else might volunteer...Also put in some seeds last year from a type of Verbena that grows around here, no show either so far.

Dandelion with a very small bee. The bee is less than 1/2 inch long. I see these all the time, not sure what bee it is. IMGP78338 by Paleo Pete, on Flickr
My neighbor got me this Amarylis last year for Christmas, I finally remembered to plant it, this is the first day it ever bloomed. Flowers about 6 or 7 inches across. IMGP78305 by Paleo Pete, on Flickr

Don't know what this is, I found it growing along a ravine in a neighbor's yard. IMGP77400 by Paleo Pete, on Flickr
An Aster I think. Group of these growing not far from my wildflower patch, might try to get some seeds into the wildflower area...it only gets early spring bloomers, then I mow it after everything goes to seed. SO far I have INdian Paintbrush and Crimson Clover, Texas Toadflax, Woods Corn Salad, Henbit, Blue Eyed Grass, Venus Looking Glass, Lyre Leaf Sage and a couple of others, and some Bluets. Gotta see if I can get some seeds from the Spring Beauties out back...Planted Bluebonnet seeds, never did get the things to grow... IMGP77465 by Paleo Pete, on Flickr
This could probably go in the Tiny Flowers thread, it's actually a cluster of small flowers that gives the appearance of one bigger one. Indian Paintbrush, this one is from my wildflower patch. I planted these 3 years ago, last year was a bust but this year they seem to be spreading a little. Taken with a old K50 f1.4 lens, wide open at f1.4. IMGP77494 by Paleo Pete, on Flickr
A macro of an Indian Paintbrush taken a few days ago, just opened up. Makinon 135mm lens and 55mm extension tubes. IMGP77456 by Paleo Pete, on Flickr

Spring Beauty, one of the first flowers to bloom in early spring. Small, but too big for the Tiny Flowers thread by far. Macro using 135mm lens and 55mm of extension tubes, natural sunlight.. IMGP77154 by Paleo Pete, on Flickr
Another macro, same rig, a Violet. They also started blooming right after the Spring Beauties did. IMGP77149 by Paleo Pete, on Flickr
