If you are considering purchasing this lens (I have it and it is one of the best lenses I own!) then I suggest that you hurry and get one that is in stock somewhere because Sigma have discontinued the lens. See here: 17-70mm F2.8-4.5 DC Macro | Sigma Corporation of America
I have no idea why they would do such a thing. And it is not just Pentax mount, it is all mounts. Very sad. I'm glad that I have mine.

No, not yet. Funny thing is that I did not even know that there was a problem that needed fixing. I had always thought of that lens as the best lens I own. It has always performed flawlessly.

First thing, of course, you download and install the software:SIGMA Optimization Pro: Software Download | SIGMA GLOBAL VISION
Then, when you have the dock, you start the software, attach the dock to the lens mount, plug the micro-USB connector end into the dock and the USB end to your computer and the program then checks your firmware version to the current version at the Sigma site. If there is a later version (which there was today) it asks if you wish to update. Naturally, I said YES. Easy, all done.

I have a dock and have just performed the firmware update. Very easy and takes less than a minute.
