That reminds me of a distributed 'art installation' of bike racks we have all around NYC. My wife and I went out one day to visit the ones from lower mid-town thru down; there's a lot more of them around town. Too bad it was a gray day. (also, not taken w/my Pentax, so I didn't post them prior. Pardon. I won't make it a habit.) Down near Wall-Street: (too bad about the silver on silver) Near Washington Square Park: Far West-side of Lower Midtown: |

Glad you noticed that. I like gates carbon driven bikes with an IGH so much that we own 3 of them! ;) The Globe Live 3 you saw there, my two Trek Soho, and Raleigh Alley Way (I keep one in NYC and one on LI).

Memorial Day Weekend 2011 on Cape Cod, specifically the bike trails north of Province Town; just processed them this weekend.
After all those hills we were still smiling!
I had Mrs. M8o do a few laps to take pictures of her...
...wish tho sometimes someone would take pix of me ... :o

Hehe... I'll be the 1st to admit my 'still life' is much better than my 'capture a stranger street style'. :o

Hahaha - what a phenomenal photo there Javier...
Shifting gears to some boosted colors... Bought myself a bike I'd been lusting after the last year; Raleigh Alley Way. Like my Trek Soho in that it's a Gates Carbon Belt drive, but this one's got a more relaxed frame geometry (my toes don't hit my front fender when I take slow tight radius turns anymore), and is equipped with the Alfine 8-speed hub rather than Nexus, and most importantly disc brakes!
All shots take w/the DA 12-24/4. Series found here: Raleigh Alley Way @ Night - Street Style - c/o Ideal Glass Gallery - m8ofoto's Photos |

I'm not sure if the 3rd pic is dedicated to the lovers of bicycles or lovers of something else.

Rode up to the Ed Sullivan theater last week to attend a taping of David Letterman Monday afternoon (the Bill Murray episode that just aired this past Friday). We're the two bikes on the left. We're pretty sure the douche locked-up to the right of us stole all our lights when he left while we were in the show ... :hmm: |

I bet she has another pair of sox @ home just like the pair she's wearing there. :p
I also wonder if the 'rough' looking group behind her hassled her as she passed.

...tho any owner of that bike (and I am, or more accurately my wife is) will quickly agree that that front basket is quite useless with anything you put in it not in a delivery bag, with everything sliding around and out/under those railings. Much thanx to Globe for kindly agreeing with that and their Garrett Chow for making us this custom insert! I'm still amazed they did that for us. |

Hahaha... what a great scene there Eddie.
Tamia, what a wonderful composition. Rock'n ride there; love those tires! I won't carry and allusions that if I were to try to ride in those conditions, my stock treads would be inadequate. The 1/2"-1" over blacktop was about the limit they could handle.
RichardS, gotta wear layers... :p My best realization was my fine hand stitched cashmere lined leather gloves would fit inside my larger insulated winter gloves.

(warning: Not taken w/a Pentax - hope your screens don't revolt :o)
My wife and I rode cross town back to our apartment as the blizzard of Christmas started sticking. I was surprised how well my bontragers handled in the snow. I thought my wife's armadillo tires would be better, but she was getting some spin on starts off the red-lights (I'm sure my double her weight factored in some too tho ;) )
And yes, the Shimano roller brakes worked equally poorly in the snow as they do in the dry. :D

The weather is in the 20's in NYC but my wife is still riding to work. I'm not sure if she'll do so in the snow however. ;)
Some 'nicer' photos in more controlled lighting. It's a Globe Live 3. The custom basket insert made by the lead designer of Globe, Garrett Chow, after I wrote them regarding how difficult it is to keep anything in the basket due to those low wide open rails it comes with stock, is certainly a dramatic design aesthetic...
Like my Trek Soho it's got a Gate Carbon Belt drivetrain with 8-speed internal hub gearing (and hers comes with the better one), but unlike my Soho her bike's equipped with discs (hydraulics) that I wish I had. (we added the Brooks saddle, and that kewl bell! :p )
I do have to say, her bike is a seriously sweet, well equipped ride with beautiful lines...
I kinda wish I got the men's version for myself instead of my Trek Soho, primarily due to the horrible drum brakes the Soho is equipped with. What the Soho really has going for it is its quick steering. When I want to play "bomber bike messenger" when the traffic gets heavy and I start weaving in and out of cars as I pass them, it's up to that task just as well as it is playing old-man commuter bike. ;)

Mrs. M8o modeling the custom one-off basket insert that Garrett Chow of Globe made for us after I expressed my dis-appointment in an e-mail with the stock design, as it was impossible for anything other than a sack of potatoes or case of soda/beer to stay in it... :p
That's the name we gave the bike, "Sweetie" -- because it's such a sweet ride -- that they stenciled on the inside of the basket's insert! |
