More from the Colby Cruise Night last summer. The 1968 Dodge Dart GT convertible belongs to a longtime friend, and is the car I rode around in all day and half the night. To the left is the 1941 Chevroley pickup rat rod owned by another friend. The 1956 Chevy gasser belongs to another friend, the 60s era Thunderbird is someone who knows the guy with the gasser.

He had it at the C10s On The Capitol show and shine in August, on his ramp truck. A teenage boy was asking lots of questions, showing a lot of interest, and when he asked Greg if he would start it up, Greg was happy to oblige. I made this video.

Bald faced hornet. I see those around here, usually in the woods by my home. They hibernate under bark on dead trees lying on the forest floor. They get pretty big too, about an inch or so long. Although they have a stinger, they are not usually aggressive towards humans so aren't a threat to us.

So far that one has been my best result. As a bonus the ISS is the arc across the image from left to right.
The shot I did last night on the river has a pass by the ISS also, but it doesn't show well.

It's fun, especially where I have made them so far, around the house, and down by the river.
My first, last June, 10 exposures, varying 3 to 5 minutes in length, using bulb mode and a cable release.

If I had a dog like that I would have numbers on the side of it.
Maybe even some contingency sponsors on the shoulders and neck, and the primary sponsor on the hips.
And a checkered flag bandanna.
Zoe sometimes had a checkered flag bandanna. (sorry, not a K-1 photo, but a film shot, from the days of my Ricoh XR2s)

Made a star trails image last night down on the river behind my house.
It was a bit frustrating for me. I gathered the gear in a backpack, hiked down the trail behind my house to the bank, grabbed a chair that the neighbors had by their firepit, set up and composed the shot, took a few test shots, set the intervalometer for 240 shots, with a 2 second interval, turned the camera loose and sat down. After a few moments I realized the camera had stopped making exposures.
I started it again, and watched carefully, and after 47 shots the camera stopped, and displayed a message about being finished.
So I bumped it up to 2,000 shots, and a 10 second interval, and let it take another run.
It ran about 70 more shots, then said it was done.
By then I realized 1600 ISO might not be fast enough, so before cutting it loose again, I bumped it up to 3200.
It kept running until it said the memory card was full, and the camera refused to start saving on the other card.
It was about 1 AM, and although I wanted to take a few shots of the Milky Way too, I decided to bag it and hike back up to the house and head for bed.
So here is the result of an awesome, albeit frustrating, night on the river.

The sky had a light glow around the horizon, long after sunset.

I tried to light paint the nearby trees and the riverbank on the opposite side.
The final output, 197 images, 30 seconds each, stacked with StarStaX, processed in Photoshop, in two versions.

It was an interesting 4th, having the full moon shortly after sunset.

I had a total of 14 2 inch mortar shells, and 9 Roman candles in 3 groups of 3 taped to rebar driven into the ground. I started with the candles, then worked through the shells in groups of 3 and 4.
I think this is the first time shooting fireworks since I went digital. I did a lot with film, usually Kodachrome. It was tricky getting the timing down with opening the shutter, firing some shells, then resetting the cameras. I dusted off my K10D and the Sigma 4.5mm Circular Fisheye, look elsewhere for those shots.
For the first time, this year I had a remote firing system, with electric matches. It was fun to sit back with everyone else and enjoy the fireworks, rather than run around with a torch, eat smoke and duck the sparks.
