Anyone thinking about shooting for magazines...............should do it!! It gave me a great sense of deadline, lots of exciting shoots, assignments at venues I wouldn't have gotten into previously, new awesome people I wouldn't have met, and a tearsheet portfolio is pretty rad too.
But I should clarify that fashion shooters aren't always just shooting for magazines. There are other campaign media that fashion photographers work for. I just happened to shoot for a fashion mag.
And all of the stuff that Ben said about who to contact and the importance of getting into the circles the right way: totally true. Sometimes I would get a little pissed about weird protocol of who to talk to but eh, it's a business and it has a structure.
