You can't draft, sprint or climb on (in?) a recumbent.
Recumbents degenerate all disciplines to individual time trials. Where's the fun in that?
I'm not saying recumbent racing can't be fun. The HPV competitions are very impressive.
It's just that HPV disciplines also suffer from "F1-disease" where engineering can begin to
be as important as athletics.

This swedish classic did a charity race last sunday that I covered as the designated photographer. The guy rode 110km on tubulars and in old school cleats and straps. Sweet.
Everyone went to check out this guy's carbon recumbent - the polar opposite of the swedish Monark.
There was a three year old boy doing 25kms on this green bike. He had just quit his training wheels. Impressive.
