What makes the 43 superior to the 31 for everyday shooting?

I am too! I was wondering if you were out adventuring with a tripod. Thanks for the tip :).

I really like this HDR - you can't even tell it's 3 exposures. Seamless.
Where do you find these amazing structures?

These photos are amazing. You make me miss my 40 :). That photo of the flower with the sun in the frame... ohh that flare resistance comes in handy does it not?

That shot actually looks very sharp. The area you zoomed in on it likely *slightly* out of focus.
f5.6 is the sweet spot as about as sharp as I could ever care a lens to be.

Yes thanks for the tip!.
It looks similar to when you stop a lens down, set the shutter speed to about 1 second, and then twist the camera as you shoot. The flash freezes a subject in a swirly background, but it's hard to get it as clean as your PS job. Great work and thanks!

I like all three pictures... but how did you post-process the third? It looks like flash photography with a long shutter speed to me... how did you do that?

My canon friend (he's a pro) uses a 5D mk II and a bunch of huge frikkin' lenses (and a 50mm 1.8). He was blown away by the 40/2.8. He told me he was originally skeptical of the speed of the lens, when he asked how it could possibly be that small, but changed his mind when he found the results of the lens wide open were on par or better to most of his lenses at f2.8.
I might have no idea what I am talking about, but I'd like to think he does. It's a great lens :).

Thanks! This was the photo that proved to me that the max aperture of 2.8 was no problem at all. I'm still amazed how *easy* the DA 40 makes things for me .

I would not put a filter on my 40 because the hood really keeps everything out of there and it can kill some of the magic IMHO... same does for the 21 and 70. On the 15, which is a flare-resistant monster, I would certainly not want a flare-inducing filter on the front of it.
Filters are good ideas sometimes, but you don't want to put it on the front of an otherwise outstanding lens because you limit their performance. I would suggest relying on a hood for protection.

Interesting. I chose the 40 because macro was not so important to me, and I figured the AF would be more useful on the 40 in normal circumstances. Plus it's considerably less expnsive. Glad to hear that someone who owns both could feel the same way!

How do you like the 35 vs. the 40? DO you find that they both see their fair share of use?

I don't have a DA 21, but I have the kit lens. Park your kit lens at 21, and then imagine the quality you see in the shot above you. The 15 is considerably wider and they are really for different things.
If you want super wide like the 15 thread shows, there's only one way to go ;). I've heard people who own both say that they find the 21 more useful all around, which makes sense because it is a less extreme focal length.
