Roses? offft! Peonies? Nah! Lilies? Nope. My favorite flower is the iris. There are dozens of different species, from the tiny netted iris that bloom in the very early spring to the huge bearded iris of late spring to the japanese water iris that bloom in most summer long. Here are two examples of bearded iris the demonstrate why they fascinate me so. The first demonstrates the wide range of colors the blooms can have, and the second shows the delicate tracery of the veins in the petals.
