Norm - your elitist comments are patently unfair...particularly in a thread not meant for critiques...and particularly from someone who posted an image of a purple beaver. Let the man post his images without being told how unrealistic it looks to you. And before you claim that you were just trying to help, have a closer look at your comment that I quoted. It was clearly meant to ridicule.

I think you've captured a rare phenomenon - a ghost colony of Herring Gulls

Thanks Weldon. Everyone else was just falling into the water from that height - this guy was throwing himself upwards, so I had to wait for him to come around in the rotation a few times before I got it right!
It's definitely a site setting. I checked a couple of other browsers and had the same issue - until I logged in - then it shrunk to suit.
Click on the Preferences link at the bottom of every page, then scroll halfway down to the "Thread Display Options" section and change the Maximum Photo Width to 1024 or whatever is best suited to you.

Thanks DogLover. I can't believe my lazy arse sat on it for over a year before PP'ing it!
Impressive. I don't suppose you have anything above 400mm with the aperture wide open? Actually, I just found the 150-450 lens club thread...I'll have a poke around in there.

Sounds like the kind of reach I'd like to have instead of having to crop from my sigma 100-300 f4. I wonder how the IQ would compare between the two?

I haven't posted any images here in a long while...simply because I'm extremely lazy when it comes to PP. I shoot in raw with the best intentions, and then nothing happens for ages. I still have unprocessed images from up to 5 years ago :o
I'll get to them eventually! Anyone else here like that...or is it just me?

Nice. That look of disdain it appears to be giving is classic..."Bugger off and let me eat in peace..."

Nice. Your landscape images definitely have a signature look about them. Not many people are able to achieve this.
This is excellent advice...I also regularly use this technique and can attest to its effectiveness.
Even in a very low noise shot, if an image is a little washed out, increasing the black level slightly can help to improve contrast significantly.

Here's a quick and dirty in my backyard - I didn't have the most appropriate lens attached for this sort of thing at the time, so I had to make do:

Looks interesting...what does the dragonfruit taste like?
They are great shots in what appeared to be challenging lighting conditions! What lens did you use?

Thanks. Yeah, it's always a battle though, with the harshness of the light from that strong sun in the middle of the day. But I just can't help myself...if I have an available moment to shoot, I'll get out there no matter what time of day it is!
