Couple of x-posts from elsewhere...these are some quick test shots using a new to me helios 44-2 m42. Another reason I kept a spare K-01 around is for eventual use with old manual glass like the helios. For me it and its focus peaking works brilliantly for this...in fact, the K-01 introduced me to that feature.

One of your nicest photos I've seen, lighting is perfect especially the highlight off the back of the horse!

The K-01 can still hold its own and I still have and use two of them. One to use as a very portable travel kit with some limiteds and the other I had converted to Infrared. Since the K-01 is so small the IR body almost always goes with me no matter which other Pentax body I am taking.

IR is one of the subsets of photography that first drew me into this hobby (landscape, B&W, and macro being the others) so here is one from a daytrip this past weekend taken with the K-01 and 35mm ltd

Thanks...I could spend a week there, it was a special place for sure. I hope someday for you to be able to pay a visit to your home country. However if you're ever in the Tampa area on a Sunday mid morning drop by here...its an fantastic Thai monastery along the river and during that time every Sunday they have what amounts to a Thai style street market complete with street food style vendors. All proceeds go to supporting the temple. It is extremely popular here and one of Florida's hidden gems.

I would say its not quite racy enough but that's just me :D

Much too busy these days :( but here's a little guy that was curious to see what was going on one day while I was tending to the garden. He was so inquisitive and unafraid that I had to run inside and grab my cam, I opted for the DFA100WR and kept the aperture open for a little isolation.

Ah that is good to know...I wasn't aware there was a k-mount variant however I already have a m42 adapter, but I will look at the native mount option.

I also suspect perhaps some like those iridescent colors on many species of flies as well as their colorful compound eyes as your last capture so vividly demonstrates. Personally I much prefer the jumping spiders since they have the appearance of having so much character, ok...as well as the fact the are probably the only spider that doesn't provoke a sense of creepiness out of me at seeing them

Well, nice regardless. I guess its peculiarities have a bit of a different type of learning curve. I still would like to add one of these Helios lenses to my kit but there are just too many variants for me to research right now so I have yet to do so.:p

Great colors on that one, striking but subtle...and I see some matcha on the spoon this time :)

Welcome! Looks like you're from a very photogenic part of the world...please share more shots if you feel so inclined :)

The sensor in the k01 doesn't much surprise me anymore. As your second image demonstrates, its amazing how capable this cam is considering its over 2 years old. I like the clouds in that pic btw...reminds me of a water color painting.

That it is Chris, and I greatly enjoyed spending the afternoon there wandering about. I have some other shots to share from another place...a zen monastery situated atop a mountain forest in an area of even higher elevation in this region. I should be getting to those soon, after a few more sets :)

From "Yellow Spring Lake", still in the central highlands but higher yet in elevation...as you can see there are Temperate Coniferous forests in Vietnam. This is a beautiful region and the weather is actually quite cool here which entices many of the southerners to visit for a holiday getaway.

DA 35ltd...for me its the versatility of this lens that gives it an essential place in my kit.

Thanks, yes I processed for a more cinematic or rather documentary look. What surprised me the most is how small the room actually is, up till visiting there my only previous perception of this historical assembly room was from a painting that provided a more expansive feel to the space.

Cool setup, I can see that indeed it does look a bit heavy to be carrying around for an extended period of time. I wonder if perhaps a monopod might be of good use in the field to aid in bearing the weight while facilitating steadiness. I have seen quite a few macro shooters at various botanical gardens using one. Keep us posted on what material you settle on to help in diffusing this more powerful flash.

BTW glad you like the WNC shot and yes it is an IR :)

That little bit of sunlight caught in your subject's eye in the first photo really brings out its nice color.

Yes impressive results for sure, keep at it! BTW any photos of that setup with the new flash and bracket?

:eek:Reminds me that I still have many images waiting for me to go through from a trip to Philly earlier this year.

I like that first one...all that glass reflecting the sky from that angle adds a truly monolithic feel to the structure. Too bad there wasn't a way to avoid that bit of something down in the lower right corner...the 15mm sure grabs a lot into the frame. :) but in a way it adds to the closeness of all the buildings in that metropolis.

The wife and I have been wanting to rent a cabin up there and after looking at these my fire is stoked a bit more, TFS and great captures all around!

Very true and I have often wondered what the deal is. When visiting the many forums and hosting sites out there they are replete with talented still life photogs but here there are fewer involved with this style. Perhaps due to the smaller population of Pentax users relative to other systems and those that do use Pentax gear primarily being of the outdoor type (WR and ruggedness being a factor here). I know in my case that although I don't care to partake in doing still life stuff (after all what I like about photography as a hobby is that it gets me outdoors more often), I do like checking out what others are sharing and can appreciate all manner of photography styles.

BTW I like the subtle lighting and textured details on the oil lamp and leaves but in this case the B&W version speaks to me more :)

Some shots from a beautiful temple situated along the Sông Đa Nhim river of Đức Trọng district in the central highlands of Vietnam.

According to a very friendly nun, who invited me to look around inside and sit for some tea, they rarely get any foreign visitors. Probably because its a bit off the beaten path. They have a large amount of land that is used to grow coffee and the proceeds made by selling it are used to fund the everyday operations as well as provide a sort of retirement home for elderly who want to live there and volunteer their time. They were so kind and not only was l given about a pound and a half of coffee but while wandering the grounds some people who were tending the vegetable garden offered me some homemade frozen yogurt (which was delicious) and a friend of my in-laws who lives there invited us to join them for lunch.

Thanks, glad you like them!

Regarding your shot, thats one of the better examples I've seen so far of a Raynox 250 combined with a dedicated macro. IQ-wise if you wouldn't have mentioned it I wouldn't have known it was there...so I think I'll be adding one to my kit for sure.

Just curious, in order to help us get a true sense of scale since flowers come in a variety of sizes...how big would you say that grasshopper is, is that part of a blade of grass towards the upper left?

Looking forward to seeing the evolution continue!

Thanks for your feed back and yes the 100mm WR is one of the nicest handling macros I have used, especially with available light which is what I always prefer if possible and I see no reason why macros have to be processed in typical macro fashion...there is plenty of room to move in all manner of direction.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm really enjoying working with IR images. Here is a false color one I processed just for kicks...

A bit of a continuation in terms of story from the last clothespin shot? Perhaps the making of a series? A cool idea regardless...I like the processing as well, very graphic novel-like which appeals to my preference for bold pen and ink type stuff.

Another succumbs to the power of the mind control :) Congrats, hope you enjoy that lens!

Had another dragonfly visitor...now that the rainy season is upon us they are showing up around the house fairly often and seem to like to perch on bamboo sticks.

Thanks, well yes, I was hoping the clouds would give a sense of drama to our nation's Capitol building where it seems these days the sun is always shining on our illustrious elected "public servants" who always seem to be sporting the same "pleasant " faces as those depicted on the shots of the Japanese statues.

Great listing of potential regions to visit, thanks for this! Of those you have mentioned, 3 of them (Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket) were definitely on my places to go list...particularly Chiang mai as it is my understanding that the surrounding mountains and countryside are quite beautiful though I had not heard much about the temples there so that's a bonus. The other 2 (Pattaya, Koh Samui) had never crossed my radar so I will do a bit of research on those as well. At this point we would probably be leaning towards a Thailand trip next since although we have a great interest in checking out Singapore it seems a bit too "engineered" and not as "raw" as Vietnam or Thailand. I spent a week in the central highlands of Vietnam and by far that was my favorite region yet. It is a region that has quite a unique look and climate compared to what is typically thought of with regards to Vietnam. The mountains, landscape, and temples were definite highlights, though I have yet to post any shots from there I am working my way to them.

BTW that nikon shot looks cool.

Again nice pics being shared here guys! @lukulele your buddy Albert has a real sweet face in that pic. @Rondec that first one with the cow is one of my favorites so far...lots of great tonal range there. @doundounba great shot with the crab spider even though he gives me a bit of the creeps :)

Thanks... yeah Vietnam, and Saigon in particular, engages all of the senses in a good way of course. It is a very dynamic and vibrant city and there are always things going on, people coming and going and eating etc. If you have been to Thailand it would be great if you wouldn't mind sharing your thoughts on what were some of your favorite places to go. I ask because on our next trip to Vietnam we are either going to incorporate a tour to Thailand or to Singapore.

BTW nice shots of your moody model, I can't choose which one I like better since you made both styles work well!
