Thanks for the info everyone. Unfortunately, I will most likely be buying these online, so I can't try them out first hand.
I did a little geometry, hopefully correctly. The FA50 has a 47 degree field of view. I assumed this meant 47 degrees from the center of the lens.
I guessed the hood diameter was 49mm, which gave a hood length of about 56mm. With the 1.5 crop factor, that equates to 84mm length hood.
I then realized that the threads were 49mm, and that the good diameter must be larger than that! So I guessed the diameter to be 60mm. This gave 69mm (standard) and 103mm (DSLR) hood lengths. Can anyone give me dimensions of their hood, or at least let me know if I am in the ball park?

So you have the standard lens hood (from the link). But I guess I could still use the tele lens hood withouth vignetting, which should be more effective, since it is a deeper hood.

Looks like I lost track of this thread...
The B&W hoods come in a tele, standard, and wide angle. I'm guessing that since 50mm is standard on a typical 35mm camera, that the 50mm on a DSLR would be in the tele range. (Also noticing the suggested Takumar hood if for a 135mm.) Is this correct?

I thought getting a lens hood would be simple, all I need is a hood with 49mm threads, right? Well, then I started looking around and find that the length of a hood corresponds (or at least should correspond) to the focal length.
Most of the hoods I have seen online mention the thread diameter (49mm), but not the length of the hood. Any recommendations on a hood for this lens?
