Two images of a digger wasp nursery tunnel. In the second image she's holding a white grain of sand to place atop other small stones. I could not risk cutting or even bending back the blade of grass that is photobombing the second image because these wasps use various pebbles and other debris around the burrow to find it again.

NOT an insect, but Opiliones (in USA commonly called "daddy longlegs" or "harvestmen") have no thread of their own, so it's either spiders or insect threads.

The strong sidelight from low down makes that image special. It brings out a lot of texture on the leaf.

Bee, probably second to dragonflies as a popular insect to photograph.

The fly in the first image is a studio-stack of a dead specimen. The butterfly & moth images were taken in the field.

Cecropia moth that landed on the one of the sun room supports the other day. Not the best background for the moth, sometimes you must take what's offered.

Interesting that they are mostly seen late in the summer. That's was my informal impression but I ascribed it to not spotting the small juveniles while the big adults are much more conspicuous. In the past I also spotted walking sticks primarily in late Summer and especially early Autumn when I'd see them on the outside of the house. I have not seen a walking stick for more than15 years, well back into the Film Era.

A question for Pentaxians somewhere in or near the northeastern USA. When was the last time you saw a praying mantis? I used to see them in the yard all the time, but now I cannot remember the last time I saw one, possibly for several years. Maybe it's just a local phenomenon.

Two wasp images, one is a focus stack of a dead specimen from the sunroom, the second is a live specimen still somewhat logy in the cool of the morning
