Three sections of a large mosaic. I keep trying to make out something real, but I think it is purely abstract, or in some way symbolic.

That is a very interesting image. My eyes flip between resolving the floating leaves then being lost in the reflections. Suggestion: the white and black strips along the bottom are unnecessary and weaken the impact of the image. I kept trying, unsuccessfully, to figure out precisely what they were and what they added to the image (IMHO, only a distraction)

This is the front cover of a book. Staring at it for a few moments is slightly mesmerizing.

MONTHS since I posted the image above. Maybe I can re-awaken interest on this thread. Below is a thin section of a rock, two microscopic level images stitched. Any petrologist could identify the type of rock, but offhand, I forget. Maybe a sandstone

And here are eight more. I thought that some of the more fully abstract renderings were very interesting

This thread has been unused too long.
Here's an experiment. Most PP programs have filters you can apply to get various effects. My copy of Topaz Studio 2 has a huge number. I took a rather lousy image - a view out the front door of my house taken early AM - processed it as best I could to a condition where it was acceptable for posting, then I applied some of those "filters" to the processed image to see what they'd do. So the first image below is OOC, the second is the version after my PP work, and then numerous versions with different filters applied each of which yielded a different degree of "abstraction." This is only a small fraction of the filters that come with the program. I'll probably have to use a second post for all the filters I selected

The original image was pretty abstract before PP possibilities got to it.

An image of the bokeh always looks abstract

In theory, if an image is an "abstract" it is impossible to determine what is in the image, it is impossible to identify the subject(s). However, images posted on this thread have always included patterns, or distortions or blurs of something that can be recognized. In practice, everyone tolerates whatever someone decides to post on a particular thread, regardless of the thread's "theme." A possible exception is the "Alphabet Race" where deviating from the accepted alphabetic sequence will elicit remarks about the error. I suspect complaints would also arise were an elephant to be posted on one of the insect threads, but I cannot recall such an egregious violation of a thread being posted.

An abstract made by a dancer in a feathery costume. Her legs and one hand connect the blur with reality.

Almost a full month since noelcmn posted that pretty image. SCAN BTW: In a shop that sold all kinds of glass creations (and other things). This is a mass of glass teddy bears each holding a balloon.

Light up the sky with fireworks! Strike up the band! Pop open the champagne! An image and a moment to be remembered!
Well, it's just one of those milestones that is artificial and relatively meaningless.
My 50,000th post Decided to put it here so it would not seem pretentious.

Those old grey layers just ain't what they used to be.
Some icy abstract. Water - frozen. liquid or vapor - is pretty reliable for abstracts.

An image taken with a 210 degree circular fish-eye, then de-fished produces not quite an abstract. but something sort-of psychedelic.

Should this be a pattern rather than an abstract? Being confetti, it's a toss up.
