It's been a long time since the last post on this thread, so I'll insert another image of a black-phase grey squirrel.

Sometimes I'd show my basic K&E slide rule to students who were using light-powered calculators just so I could hear them say; "What do you measure with it?"

The only time I've seen a live flying squirrel (other than watching Rocky and Bullwinkle) was when I came upon youngsters peering out of a crack/hole in a very large old tree. I was walking the dogs, no camera with me. SFAIK flying squirrels at least here in MessyChewBits are actually more abundant than the greys - Hokey Smoke! - but because they are totally nocturnal, shy and very quick they are rarely seen.

Melanic or melanistic squirrel which have become more common locally over the past five years or so. They seem to yield to the more common greys if there is any dispute.

A ground squirrel striking an "Oh my goodness!" posture, or maybe it's just cleaning a dirty nose.

A squirrel when there was some snow, a squirrel after the snow was gone from the feeding table. They look like the same individual, but the second one has some brown on its tummy that the other lacks.

Taken early this morning through a big window at one end of our study. The old steel picnic table has been a bird/squirrel feeder almost all the time we've been in this house. Birds, this squirrel and others had all the snow cleared off the table by noon looking for seeds that I spread on it few days earlier.

Three squirrel images from a few years back that were never processed for posting. I do miss Rupert, his posts were always worthy of a smile and chuckle. Such good-hearted people are a treasure.
