I don't know why that my camera would not record the sun (let alone the rays of the star-burst). The picture shows only a white area without the sun even using f16 or 18 in Av mode.

My friend ordered DA15 from B&H. It only took 4 days to get it. After paying UPS expedited shipping and 12% sales tax, it is $100 cheaper than those from ebay sellers.

Posted by Ecaterin "catastrophe: How do some of you guys get such nice sunbursts with the landscape and the skies both perfectly exposed? I find either the skies are over exposed or the landscape is underexposed all the time. I generally use f8, iso 100, what shutter speed do you guys use? Or were they done using HDR or exposure bracketing?
I go to f/13 or more, ISO 200, meter off the landscape or horizon (without putting the sun in the frame so I don't go blind!) and then angle the camera up so the sun will be in frame. Bam - sunburst :) I tend to under expose in general, so I do a touch of exposure adjustment in post, but just a tad. Two of my favorites:"
I think you have to set the camera in this way: when the focus is locked (shutter button half way), the exposure metering should also be locked so the metering would not change when you place the sun in the frame.

My friend wants to buy DA15, but it's out of stock at B&H and Adorama. Perhaps it is this thread which generates unusual popularity for this lens. (Edit: DA 15 is in stock at B&H, 11/03/10).

Before I try it myself, I'd better ask you experts: do I need to wear double sunglasses when I point the camera toward the sun. Would my retina and the camera sensor get fried?

Would someone please explain the star burst effect when one points the camera at the light source.
