Take the pledge - No new Pentax lens purchases

The pledge has always said NEW lenses. Purchasing used puts no money into Pentax or their retailer's pockets. As for the edit, that is meant as a clarification. Do you want to have them go back to more market driven prices? That was my goal, so if they do so why continue the pledge?

I do not expect them to reveal all to us, seriously. I do expect that they will not just zing us with outrageous prices without ANYTHING else, nor do I expect only political speech.

Just to address an issue that was raised in another thread - I am not debating or posting in the absence of information, I am reading Ned's blog. The fact is he's posting but not any real information, simply "you have to understand" and "Wait and see" messages that are vacuous. 2 days ago he posted this gem ". I can't possibly share everything we are working on but the notion driven by the forums that we're not looking at this Growth in America strategy from every angle is just not an accurate picture."

Let me be clear, releasing price increases - and darn dramatic ones at that - without any other initiatives in place ALREADY is poor planning and leadership IMHO. Wait til summer, you'll see in a few months, I can't tell you now, are all complete and utter BS. Of course I believe Pentax is considering other things, I also believe completely that they are thinking of many NOW that were not considered 3-5 weeks ago because of the comments here and elsewhere about how they bungled this whole process.

I hear the 'raise the price first so they have more money to do" X, Y, and/or Z line a good bit here on PFs. The problem is that Ned has said several times, and seems defensive about it lately, that Pentax is not actually raising prices (BS and Double BS) it's their real customers the retailers that are doing that and so Pentax is not getting 1 cent more out any lenses. So, if the volume of lens sales has declined as several indicators seem to show and Pentax isn't getting even 1 cent more per lens they actually have less money to plow back into R&D and such. That argument just doesn't survive when the information available from Ned is considered.

You know, the thing I can't understand is why someone disagreeing with you - or calling you on it when you make insulting statements, degrade another Nation, etc. - is something to be moderated? As an aside, if you don't like my posts - don't read them and certainly don't keep coming into this thread and expecting me to agree with you without new accurate information. So many here seem to believe that because they believe something others MUST believe it once they've explained their position OR that other person is a dolt.

I also do not understand why disagreeing with a policy of Pentax's is a criminal offense, because that is the way some here want it to be treated. The idea that if one disagrees with Pentax to the point where they refuse to buy another item at an outrageous price with no added value results in statements to the effect of 'either shut up or change systems!' is absolutely amazing to me. If I didn't know better I'd think I was dealing with a bunch of Right-Wing Gun-Crazed American's who believe "American - Love it - Or Leave it!" because it is precisely the same mentality only this time about something trivial like loyalty to a brand - a brand - wow.

I'll say it again as clearly as I know how:

I know others here are above the age of majority and therefore have the right to do as they please. I respect that others have different opinions. Please give me the same courtesy. Clear. Thanks, have a nice day.

I have never held that if Pentax actually handled it well things wouldn't turn out better for us as their real customers. But in point of fact they have bungled the entire process, and most of the things they've been asked to handle in the past 2-3 years for that matter, and I have zero confidence that unless Ricoh home-office takes a direct management hand in each act from Pentax USA that anything will improve. Recall how their VP for whatever handled the interview on the K-01? That wasn't an outsourcing issue as is the chief excuse that gets recited like a mantra from many here for Pentax USA's woes, that was a senior executive of the US office being a lump in an interview. Contrast his performance with that of the equivalent person from Pentax UK. So, yes I completely agree with the premise that IF they handle things well from here on out then it is likely to turn out well. BIG, BIG, if.

Yes in theory but practice is sometimes a different issue. I will say that the one time I had to involve Amazon support because of a problem with a marketplace seller they simply told me to keep the item, refunded the cost including shipping, and suggested an alternative seller from their marketplace (which worked out fine except for the 2 day delay).

Ah, sorry for the misunderstanding. For what it's worth, we buy a large amount of our clinic materials through Amazon and if you are buying from Amazon itself you are very secure on the return issue. Their marketplace is a bit more of an open question.

The fluctuations in Amazon's prices, those of the items Amazon itself carries and sells, appear to be the result of automated pricing by their computer analysis of stock, sales, etc. The prices drop suddenly for a few hours and then return to precisely MSRP, probably when an actual human being notices. My conclusion from this is that Amazon is not intentionally breaking the MSRP but because so much of their operation is controlled by sophisticated computer systems it happens because the items are not selling and the computer knows that lowering the price will goose sales. That also means, to me based on watching this now for a little while, that it is not B&H or Adorama that is jacking things up at all but in fact is Pentax imposing a MSRP pricing scheme under the revisions of the Sherman law that occurred subsequent to the 2007 US Supreme Court ruling related to this whole issue of price fixing.

There are a variety of them in the threads that led to this one and they were commented upon as being surprisingly vehement by non-Americans so I do not believe it is merely my imagination. This thread was started to separate it out as a US issue and to try to do something to influence Pentax.

Frankly, the vehemence of the Anti-American posts was quite shocking. The degree of "Pentax can not do any wrong and you are XYZ for saying they've made a pig's breakfast of the whole thing" also has shocked me. I thought Pentaxians were contrarians and not Fanboys but I was clearly mistaken with regard to far more members than I would have ever imagined.

Thanks. So many seem to love twisting words, it's quite amazing. I have said repeatedly that what others do is their own business. However, I don't go around telling others the quality of my bowels as that is rude. Equally rude is coming into a thread talking about stopping purchases because you are trying to influence a wrong-headed policy and announcing, with no meaningful contribution to the discussion, that you've just purchased a lens.

If you do not mean to say FU, they why announce such a fact here and now? I certainly hope that you find a lens that you like at a good price and would probably had said so if you had posted that announcement elsewhere, but doing so here is merely a poke in the eye to those of us who believe, genuinely, that Pentax has made both wrong decisions and insulted us as their customers. I believe that such a post is just as blatantly rude as coming into someone's announcement of their happy purchase and saying "That X is a POS, and here is why!"

The online yellow pages here in Atlanta are rather misleading. Under "camea store" most are print shops and framing places. There are a lot of Wolf Cameras still listed, like the one 3mi from me, that closed several years ago. There is KEH :). From what I can tell from websites there are 3, maybe 4, that actually appear to sell SLR equipment in a city of 4 million. One sells only Leica to physicians, no kidding, and I've known about them for years but they don't count because Ned hasn't raised prices high enough......yet. None are more than small retail spaces from what I can tell (not counting KEH).

Thanks. I, for one, believe you have every right to spend your money as you see fit as long as it doesn't harm anyone else. Interseting that somehow your B&M store has stayed in business, sold at closer to MSRP, and has a full line of Pentax gear. I genuinely wonder if this new MSRP mandate will help or hurt them?

Sample, it's a non-random sample. Combine that with the automated price gyrations that have gone on at Amazon and it's my impression that the outrageously jacked prices have severely slowed sales on those lenses.

Another tidbit for anyone who isn't ignoring me:lol:

Adam posted in another thread in this SLR Lens Discussion Forum that according to the statistics he gets on sales at B&H to support PFs there have been 0 DA sales at MSRP but that the non-MSRP FAs are selling briskly!

Guess I'm not as stupid as the Koolaid Brigade seems to think about the impact of MSRP pricing on sales.

Was chastised for hijacking another thread, and so I bring this issue here.

"These are two separate (but related) issues.

If you enjoy the Pentax DSLR you bought at Target, you might want to go down to, say, Kaufmann's Cameras and see what other lenses and accessories they have. Or Calumet, or Wolf. Or look on the Target website.

Thus, we have BOTH a big-box retail push AND stricter price management."

My Reply:
That does nothing for Target, they're not likely to actually stock $2k lenses they're way outside their demographic. Again, this looks like a smokescreen by Pentax. It would be nice to have more entry level Pentax users, granted. Target may achieve that to some degree. However, they are not going to be competing for sales of $1.5-2k lenses. Price stability on the dSLR was achieved recently on the K-5 by LOWERING the MSRP, NOT increasing it. Again, this doesn't look to benefit Target in their pursuit of sales of entry level dSLRs so why would Target, or the unnamed wink wink Big Box retailer that they have been in negotiations for over a year with (BS), have any interest in the high end lenses and their prices. Even if they did, why not control the stability of their pricing in the same manner that the K-5 price was just stabilized - by lowering the MSRP to a reasonable level?

Unlike how the mischaracterizations paint me, I am not inflexible or unreasonable - just sick of Koolaid and slams from Pentax officials. Your point about MSRP is actually what my intention was, but in light of your comment I have added an Edit to the original post to this thread. Thanks.

I'm also fascinated that this is such an insignificant effort, and we've lost anyway, but the Choir director and singers seem to have an irresistible need to come by and see what the five of us have posted.

Thanks for your input. You're wrong but you're entitled to be wrong and have a say. BTW, coming into a thread like this and saying "BTW, I a few days ago I ordered a new Pentax Limited lens." is the functional equivalent of saying FU. Thanks.

You know, your self-righteous and superior attitude is WAY old. You do NOT know everything, I DO NOT care who your brothers and sisters are or what they do for a living, and I really am tired of you spewing forth your Koolaid flavored Pollyanna attitude.
