Small, light, weather sealed, versatile, in camera stabilization, backward compatible - those are the hallmarks of Pentax for me.
It's funny to me that people want Pentax to ape Sony or Canon. Years ago when I was at a NASA Launch and it started to rain heavily there were 3 photographers that didn't scramble for the buildings. Two of them were pros with $10k of equipment that was weather sealed. Oh, and then there was me with my K-5. They were both flabbergasted that my <$1K camera was safe. Pentax baby!

Replace the K-3 with a camera that incorporates all the advantages of Pentax, what they've learned from the K-1, and make it as usable as the K-5 series. Nothing Earth shattering, just better, newer, and not Canikon. Next.

Not covering the same ground in the same way as everyone else might be a good starting point. The FF lenses show nearly no innovation IMHO. That is entirely different from whether the lenses are good/great/useful but Pentax has a history of being innovative in their lenses (smaller, unique focal lengths, creative solutions optically, etc.) that I no longer see reflected in new offerings.

Again, your subjective evaluations of their quality is not the issue. None of those are innovative in how they approach the issue, their focal length, their general features, etc. They are covering the same ground that has been covered endlessly since the beginning of 35mm film. I appreciate that many, most, of us her are Pentax fans - that does not negate the complete lack of innovation over the past few years in their lens lineup.

Unfortunately, almost all of those are fairly unremarkable in the areana of breaking new ground. 28-105 is an OLD standard zoon for 35mm, everyone has made 70-200/2.8s and thus there are many models to use as "inspriation", 50mm at 1.4 is not novel in ANY way. Of them all, the only one that strikes me as innovative may be the 20-40 Ltd.

My recollection comes from per-sebatical days so maybe 4-5 years ago but I recall Pentax releasing their top-name lens designer and the outrage/sadness/confusion among PF members at the time. So, I agree that in my book Pentax has lost a few key personnel in the optics arena and thus are less likely to come out with amazing and innovative designs natively.

That's always the story when Pentax executives give interviews. Nothing to see here, move along.

Happy New Year to you as well. Thank you for sharing your translation.
It has always been this way with trying to devine the intent of Pentax officials. Will new products come out of n 2019? Almost certainly. Beyond that- no idea.
