I read an article recently on how Canicon are used by professionals more, Sony too, and it helps if you are caught with a low battery or need a lens and can easily borrow one from a fellow user. I see NOT being part of the crowd as beneficial as I have less of an issue with people asking to borrow stuff and then forgetting to return it or damaging it. Maybe I am too protective of my equipment!

So a day at the New York Botanical Gardens this past Saturday. Note to self, don' go on Earth Day, so many others do (or get there REAL early, like 8am)!

Of all the cameras, besides phones, Canikons mostly, one Sony, maybe, one Pentax (my K-1).

It was a great day with so much in bloom anyway!

One nice thing about Pentax being in the position of "rarely seen" within a group, you don't have the issue of people wanting to borrow your favorite lenses! OK, you don't have the option the other way, either, but keeping track of your "stuff" is a nice little sense of security!

Something that I feel when I pick up the camera, whether it is a Kodak Instamatic (I still have my Instamatic 100), my view camera, my 35mm film camera or one of my digital Pentax cameras, I feel like I am there to make an image. I am not capturing a moment, though this happens as part of the process, I am creating something through framing, exposure and lens choice, to get the viewer to see something more in a way I want them to see it, maybe in a way they did not see it.

Sometimes its a matter of "fool proofing", forcing them to stop using their old ways by taking the older method away. The iPhone is light and always with her. Why change? She is warping the image in PS anyway, so it is a start for the rest of her "art". You can lead a horse to water....

I forgot to post this a few weeks ago, but at Niagara Falls over the week after the 4th of July and had a bit of a surprise, with 3 pentaxes and one pentax owner (ME Super) film camera, commenting on each other! I had my K-1, there was a K30 and K50. And the most popular camera at the falls network (we visited both the US and Canadian sides), yep, the camera phone!

PS- It helped to start the conversation having the Pentax Forums T shirt on!

PS Alex- I am the teacher!!! At least it helps me get to know the Canon and Nikon user interfaces, and I must say, I still like Pentax far and away over either!

This is an adult evening class. Everyone already has their cameras, so we just go with what everyone has. As the teacher, you need to be flexible!

Another class, and the same old sameold. With about 20 people in the class, the numbers are split about evenly between Canon and Nikon. It still is kinda nice that I am the only one with a Pentax (at least none of the students can ask me to borrow or try a lens!).

And the beat goes on....

So I started my class again. A wide variety of people (about 12 of them) with different backgrounds. But they all had Canikons. Not so different after all!

I am still the voice crying in the wilderness!

For a firearm it is necessary to maintain stability during the recoil and to absorb some of it. Leaning forward (a bit) with a camera maintains a better center of gravity. There shouldn't be any recoil!

A standard practice for a person with experience using firearms, and it adds some comfort to the person taking the picture too! I do suspect the rifle is locked and loaded though!

So Sunday was spent watching planes do their stuff (OK, the pilots had something to do with it too) at the NY Air Show. I saw no other Pentax camera there. However, with my K-1 and 70-300 DG, I did get his image.... Note, this is NOT cropped!

Happy 4th of July all!

Was the previous owner ashamed of being in the Pentax clan??? Or maybe they just got tired of explaining to people about Pentax, and no, it is not a new camera company!

Yes, such companies include KODAK, Montgomery Ward, GAF (film), Enron, Worldcom, Lehman Brothers, can you name some more? Too big to fail does not exist!

So I was at the NY Botanical gardens again this past weekend (Saturday AND Sunday) photographing the Spring blooms. Everything was popping, even the azaleas, which usually blossom in two weeks, were almost in full bloom, and many others. The gardens were packed for the blooms and the wine tasting event they had. Over the course of two days, I saw one Ipad shooter (large one at that) a gazillion phone photogs (one person was capturing every blossom on a bush), a few Olympus mini's, a Mamiya 330 TLR with a flash (metz), a few Sony a series, a few point and shoot but mostly Canicons (more Nikon than Canon it seemed). One of the people had a Nikon with the white logo letters blacked out (ashamed???). I still had the only Pentax (K-1) on day one and the only other Pentax was the K-01 my daughter brought (borrowed from me) on day two.

This must be a REAL exclusive club I have fallen into!

Another day in the garden...

The Orchid show at the NY Botanical Gardens ended yesterday and my wife, daughter and I went down. It is always a treat to see the displays and blossoms on these incredible plants! After we left the Arboretum, we saw the line wrapped around the building to get in (why I prefer going real early, and we got there late for us, about noon). The most popular camera was the ubiquitous CAMERA PHONE. Then there was the usual smattering of Canikons. I saw one Sony and two Pentaxes, my K-1 and my Q10 loaned to my daughter.

I had a great new macro light (LED, three light, Mcoplus LED Macro Camera Flash Speedlite Flexible Metal Hose for Canon Nikon | eBay) that I am really beginning to like. It caught some attention without being obnoxious. It works well with the K-1, so don't let the Canon/Nikon thing on the link dissuade you !
