Take a series of dark shots. If the hotspots are always in exactly the same place then they're hot pixels. I must confess that I've had them - on an older camera, since departed- but just spotted them out in PS.

I've had my K10d for less than a year but have only cleaned the sensor once. That was a couple of months ago when I noticed smudgy aliens in the sky so I used the built-in vibrator. It worked a treat.
(Note to self : not taking enough photographs - must change lenses more often!)
