Maybe it is also metal but it looks different than the focus ring on the revuenon etc. I agree when focus is nailed these lenses are quite sharp in their tiny focal area

Yeah that should be the same (or similar) to the Revuenon (same optically as the Cosina but the Porst is a diff animal)
The Revuenon/Ricoh focus ring is metal and nicer than the Cosina which is plastic
Great lens btw

You can also look for the Revuenon 55mm f1.2, its the same lens (body is a bit different). There are others but I havent seen them in K-mount. Someone on here has many versions and posted a pic (maybe in the 1.2 thread).

There is no macro capability unless maybe you reverse the lens, the MFD is rather long as well, but you can attach a Raynox macro adapter which works great.
You can see some candid portraits from me here: Flickr: Search phil.w's photostream
most were done with the K-r and the MF was hit or miss on some shots, (much easier with the K-5)

The "Marilyn Monroe Building"
Yes, those days are over, there was a time a couple years back when a bunch of old new stock of them hit the market they went for as low as $60. Now they are ~$300+++ (I think still a bargain at this price really for what it is, it will go much higher in time, unless a bunch of new stock is found).
The Tomioka M42 versions are $600-1000++!!

Yes, yes and yes!
Fantastic for portraits
It is easiest to find the Revuenon version of this lens as far as I can tell (same as the Cosina, the Porst is a diff lens)

Thanks!
Its pretty close, makes a big difference from the usual 0.6 metre min with the Revuenon! you can still use the different focusing distances on the lens so between maybe 2-6" (5-15cm?) or so? (I think)
The 250 would be cool but I think might be a bit too zoomed in for some applications. Depends on what you want to shoot, I plan on buying the 250 eventually. Highly recommended though, especially because you can use it on many lenses, I orig bought the raynox to compliment my Tamron 90, but it works great here too!

YAY! My Revuenon 55 1.2 finally arrived from Germany in mint condition!! Wow what a nice looking lens, seems to be made of metal the focus ring seems to be a bit nicer than the Cosina. The multi coat is golden yellow with hints of green. I have only played a bit but doesnt seem too hard to get at least close with focus and live view is awesome. The bokeh looks great! Oh its also quite a bit smaller and lighter than I had imagined for some reason, which is great it is very compact and not heavy at all. I thought the 55mm might be a bit long on my K-r but its not. I thought it would focus a little closer than it does, but im super happy so far.
Here are some of my first shots all wide open, nothing special, but I may as well join the club now ;)

I am now in the process of ordering a Revuenon 55mm 1.2 MC for Pentax mount. Quite a bit pricier than the Porst! (not quite but almost double )
Can anyone tell me if Av mode works at f1.2 with the Cosina/Revuenon like with M lenses?
I now understand the differences between these lenses roughly:
Porst Color Reflex:
milky super softness, less blades and less complex glass for the Porst. This may actually be the original Tominon formula before it was updated and improved later
Cosina MC/Revuenon MC for Pentax mount
Sharpness wide open, none of the milkyness, several more blades and more complex glass arrangement for the Cosina/Revuenon/Yashinon/etc.
m42 Tomioka variants (Auto Tomioka, Auto Yashinon, Auto Cosinon, Auto Revuenon etc)
Maybe different to the Pentax mount versions? Some minor differences with the cut glass of the Tomiokas and the fully auto aperture Yashinon DS-M.
Sorry for all the posts, but this is the kind of fever the nice photos in this thread have caused ;)

I didnt realize it was an auction until I checked again and it is a Porst not a Cosina. Its only got 2 days left and its still only $80 or so. Also these lenses were selling for as low as $80 just a few months-a year ago.
There seems to be lots of the Porsts for K mount in Germany. But now I am SUPER confused about all of these 1.2 variants.
I have also read that none of the Pentax mounts are the same as the M42 mount lenses.
Ah well, im gonna keep researching and looking...

Alright, I am cancelling my Porst order, the guy thinks it will be costly shipping from Germany for some reason anyways....
I am still looking for a Cosina/Revuenon/etc 55mm 1.2 so if someone has one to sell PM me.
Lots of great info about these lenses here: www.tomioka.de E-Main "Tomioka 55mm 1.2 M42
- This lens construction was produced in the following versions within the years from 1970 to 1974: AUTO CHINON TOMIOKA JAPAN 55mm F=1.2®

AUTO YASHINON TOMIOKA JAPAN 55mm F=1.2®
AUTO REVUENON TOMIOKA JAPAN 55mm F=1.2®

But how much of a difference are we talking, the quirky bokeh seems near identical, which is what I want it for, is the Porst not 95-98% the same as the Cosina/Revuenon/Tomoika/insert random brand here?
It doesnt seem to be much different in the comparison below. Mind you there is no cosina in this comparison only porst 55 1.2, tomoika 55 1.2, revuenon and porst 1.4s 7 fast 55mm and 50mm quick OOF rendering comparison::Manual Focus Lenses
edit: I saw in another thread someone posted:
"Here's my take on the Porst vs. Cosina=Revuenon=Tomioka:
Main differences (Tomioka in brackets):
55mm filter thread (58mm)
6 elements (7)
8 blades (9)"
Someone else, blende8 said it was soft as well in the same thread. Lots of nice pics from teh porst in the 1.2 thread, bokeh looks really similar to the cosina, maybe not as sharp hard to tell.
Hmmm what to do? I havent made payment yet, no cosinas anywhere online, revuenon is going for $900 on ebay which is nuts
Just found this as well:
"
On the Cosinon, Revuenon MC, Vivitar, and Porst Color Reflex MC Auto, the
aperture can be stopped down to f/16.
BUT
On the Porst Color Reflex MC Auto Pre-Series, the aperture can be stopped
down to f/22. I have no idea what Pre-Series means, but in my photos the
Pre-Series appears to have a bluer, more beautiful multicoating, even
though the lens itself looks like an older design.
Like most of these 55/1.2Ks, the Rikenon stops down to f/16. However,
Popular Photography reported that the Rikenon's diaphragm has 9 blades. The
Porst Color Reflex MC Auto clearly has 8 blades. The only other 55/1.2K
that I know has 9 blades was the Vivitar Series 1 prototype (f/16).
Summing up, we find that the 55/1.2Ks fall into three camps:
1. f/16, 8 blades (Cosinon, Porst Color Reflex MC Auto, Revuenon MC)
2. f/16, 9 blades (Rikenon, Vivitar Series 1 prototype)
3. f/22, unknown number of blades (Porst Color Reflex MC Auto Pre-Series)
To which of these groups do the Chinon 55/1.2K and the Vivitar production
55/1.2K belong? I don't know; but the Vivitar came out in 1976, predating
the others by many years."
Paul Franklin Stregevsky" http://www.mail-archive.com/pdml@pdml.net/msg79526.html
And another article talking about the Porst's softness and how Cosina made it but also made their own version. http://women-and-dreams.blogspot.com/2008/11/porst-55mm-f12-wind-blows-neptunes-hair.html

to be honest ive only searched on .ca and .uk ebay, mostly on google though I found it searching with some combination of 55mm 1.2 1,2 cosina revuenon. You might find it on the german .de site, I couldnt find the listing at all on the north american or uk ebays. There is one swedish seller but the starting bid is listed as $260 with a buy it now of $560 (0 bids )

Well, I have to wait and see if I can get it first ;) The one I am looking at is still over $220
I just remembered that the one I thought was $80 was actually an ebay (germany) item I think and was an auction with a few days left so that price will likely go up. I tried to find it but to be honest I cant! Darn google!
the listing was maybe for revuenon not sure it had the text Lichtriese (meaning light giant) in it and 1.2 was written as 1,2 it was all in German and the guy said he would only ship EU.
Ill try to dig it up

anything from $150 to $1000 depending on where you look (seriously)
In germany they are $75-150 although nobody will ship outside of germany (wtf?), in NA they seem to be asking for $500 but I wager you could get one for $300 or so. Looks like you can get an m42 version for cheaper EDIT
for a porst as low as 150 |
