It should be noted that the 100f4 is a macro lens. For macro f4 is fast enough the only problem is when you use it as a multipurpose lens. The 105f2.8 is pretty special if you want something faster but it's around $100. Or at least it was when I bought it 2 years ago.

I also find the 35 (and 40) to be a little odd considering I also want to bring a fast fifty along. It's a little too close to the fifty and it's still not wide enough (on APSC) if I need it. I use my DA40 quite a bit for hiking though. My 35's usually just sit in the cabinet or unused in the camera bag. Yesterday I used the DA15, SMCTak 55 and ST 105 but never really thought that I needed the 35.

The 35/3.5 and 135/3.5 along with your 55/1.8 are probably the best combination of cost and outstanding IQ. In the end however you can't go wrong with a M42 takumar prime. That's also true for pretty much all of the Pentax primes.

You could email BH and see if they expect it to be restocked at any time. I bought the off brand (bower) one earlier and I thought it was complete crap. Even if I sold my takumars I wouldn't sell my adapter.

Used my longest lens (tele takumar 200) to shoot the full moon (-1 day) last night. It's not ideal but it works for now. This full moon is a big deal in Taiwan and it is a national holiday (falling on a weekend). 2012 Moon Festival, Kaohsiung, Taiwan by abacus07, on Flickr

I find it easy to forget that many PF photographers speak English as a second language. Cobain's English is nearly perfect and it's easy to forget that he doesn't know every word. Honestly I couldn't have defined serendipitous...

It might be pretty hit and miss about whether or not you'll get any true landscape shots with a 300mm lens although you do have 30. It might be too overcasty in Sept/Oct to effectively use the reach for some nice landscapes.
Several times I've done whole trips with my DA15 and M135 and it was an awesome combo. However I haven't taken very few landscapes with that long of a lens (partly due to air quality/vapor). Mostly monkeys, butterflies, flowers, people, etc... it would be interesting to only use a long lens on a hike though.
My takumar night was just canceled due to a thunderstorm. I'll still head out to the outdoor music (several expat bands) but I'll be taking my DFA100WR instead of tak105.

I love how Minahasa has teased us with the hot girl. You can see just enough to know that she is really hot (and a reader) but you aren't allowed to really see her.

Too much chatter and not enough pictures.
An FIVB tournament came to Taiwan last week and my Takumars did very well. It was nice using the nice big focus ring instead of a modern lens. FIVB Taiwan vs DomReb, Kaohsiung, June 2012 by abacus07, on Flickr
The Dominican Republic was bigger and stronger than the rather small Taiwan team. I was surprised to find out that most of the players are shorter than I am. FIVB Italy vs Poland, Kaohsiung, June 2012 by abacus07, on Flickr

We'll see what I leave the house with but I think it's a Takumar day. 35/55/105/200 sounds like a better combo for today's activities than 15/24/50/135.

I have similar thoughts about the M135f3.5. It's even lighter and it's sharp wide open. The min focus issue was solved by getting a DFA100WR though. Now the tak 105 gets very little use.

Here is my gallery from the Single in March Challenge with the Takumar 105. A very impressive lens and it's a better focal length than the M135 but I plan on using the M135 in the single lens challenge soon to see if I can get by with just one of these in my arsenal. I really don't need 20+ lenses. Shoushan, Kaohsiung, Taiwan by abacus07, on Flickr Homeless, Kaohsiung, Taiwan by abacus07, on Flickr Brickyard Dancer, Kaohsiung, Taiwan by abacus07, on Flickr
And a video. I'll probably get an external mic for other concerts. Youtu.be |

Very nice. I would like to add the 20/24 so I have a moderately wide angle in my Takumar set but I think I'm in budget freeze after buying a K-5.
A much smaller (size and quantity) collection

It's a takumar month for me since I'm using the supertak105 as my single in March lens. went out with only the 35/55/105/200 this weekend to a music festival. Took a solid 2000 photos using the spray and pray technique. MegaPort Music Festival, Kaohsiung, Taiwan by abacus07, on Flickr
That sounds as loud as it looks. SuperTak105f2.8 probably wide open MegaPort Music Festival, Kaohsiung, Taiwan by abacus07, on Flickr
Decorating the Pier 2 Art Center in Kaohsiung during the festival - SuperTak105f2.8 - f8 or f11 IIRC MegaPort Music Festival, Kaohsiung, Taiwan by abacus07, on Flickr
I saw the 5 minutes of this show since I had to run home due to 2 sets of depleted batteries and a full memory card. Bad preparation on my part. SuperTak105f2.8 - f4 or f5.6 MegaPort Music Festival, Kaohsiung, Taiwan by abacus07, on Flickr
A heavy crop from the 105 of this hard rockin Japanese band (Pay money TO my Pain). SuperTak105f2.8 - I had no luck getting photos of this band. This one turned out pretty well though. MegaPort Music Festival, Kaohsiung, Taiwan by abacus07, on Flickr
TeleTak200f5.6 almost certainly wide open

Would your wife be upset because they remind her of home or because they don't always flatter Kaohsiung?
I was reasonably uncomfortable taking their photo but that's true for most street shooting. 105mm works well for that though. I've used the 135 hood on my A50f1.7 with no vignetting but it's a little strange since it's bigger than the lens. It barely vignettes on my M28/2.8 so you should be able to use almost as long of a hood as you want. I really don't see the point of using the vintage hoods on APSC. The wide angle hoods don't offer that much protection and they are expensive (sometimes).

It is pretty tricky doing concerts especially in small venues with strange lighting. A K-5 would help though but I was able to get decent images with my K200D and A50f1.7 and okay ones with my M135f3.5.

it's cleaned up a lot but all winter Kaohsiung remains in a haze. In the summer when the winds change you have brilliant blue skies with clouds. Actually the common sight is dressed up girls on scooters since they are cheap and nearly everyone has one. The girls that I see on bikes are either in HS, really poor on beaters or exercising on expensive bikes.

I haven't used my takumars much but that is about to change since I selected the supertak 105 as my single in march lens. Here are the shots for the 1st and 3rd of the month. Kaohsiung, Taiwan by abacus07, on Flickr
Yeah, I might as well start smoking... Kaohsiung, Taiwan by abacus07, on Flickr
I was pushing my gear to the limits with this shot and missed the focus a little but I love it. This isn't Japan and you don't see many dolled up girls on bikes on a Saturday night. K200D at 1600 iso and 1/45sec, supertak 105f2.8 at f2.8. That K-5/K-01 upgrade is getting more and more tempting.

How do you know that the pile of lenses that you have can't do that? And if they can't is it the lens or the photographer? Manually focusing birds in flight takes some mad skills. gotta give CJ some credit for those shots.
