In Chinese 4 sounds like the word death and it's basically treated like #13 in the US.

We stumbled into a small mountain village in the middle of one of their festivals (a god's birthday) while searching for waterfalls and hiking. Quite unexpected but it was the highlight of the weekend. DA40 Random Festival in Baolai, Taiwan by abacus07, on Flickr Youtu.be |

I thought the first picture was from a Russian version of West Side Story.
Here are a few from the DA15 and DA40 last weekend. Usually the DA15 (and DFA100WR) dominate the photos but this time it was the DA40. I should have set up the tripod (iso 400 or 800 and f8 or larger) on several of these but it ended up being a 3 hr hike and I was getting hungry. Jhiben, Taiwan by abacus07, on Flickr

Yeah, that's a good shot even if you didn't have a perfect reflection.

I agree. I really like the first and last ones.
concerts are tricky and my technique mostly consists of spray and pray. It's pretty common to take at least 500 shots to find a few cool ones.

I think it's actually because the ship on the right is sitting slightly lower in the water so the lines almost match exactly but not quite. Regardless it's excellent.

I like those two because they aren't just great landscapes but they also combine the human element. And that's not all that easy/common with landscapes.

Mike's bridges are always great but Schmid's Penn farm photos look awesome.
I'm trying to make amends with my DA40 after neglecting for months in favor of my A50f1.7. I had a nice hike in the midst of rain showers. My DA15 was also busy but the K24 and M135 remained in the backpack. Yuntan Waterfall, Rueli, Taiwan by abacus07, on Flickr
DA15 - Yuntan (Cloud Pool) Waterfall - I took another photo 30 minutes later that shows a significantly bigger waterfall due to the rain. Yuntan Waterfall Trail, Rueli, Taiwan by abacus07, on Flickr

DA40 - The possibly permanently closed Alishan Railway. This was a popular tourist attraction but there are derailments every few years resulting in casualties and it's probably closed forever due to the last one. Alishan Railway, Taiwan by abacus07, on Flickr

I don't have the 35 but I bought the 15 in December and I'm seriously considering trading up (DA40 and A50f1.7) to the FA43. I also want the 77 but it's further down the list. DFA100WR, DA*300, a set of Tamron or similar zooms...

The DA40 is an ideal hiking/landscape lens. I might nitpick about other things but it's awesome for hiking. We hiked the JinShui trail (historic cross island trail) in southern Taiwan. It crosses over the central mountain range (about 2500m IIRC) and luckily there is a road to the top (military radar station). After that it's a gently graded 20km hike down to our waiting van. I also used my M28/2.8 and crossposted photos in the M club. |

I took the DA40 out for its first big weekend. Usually these photos end up in the K/M/A threads but this is going to easily be my most used lens. Although the DA15 needs to be purchased soon because there are times when you need to WIDE.

Monkey Mountain in kaohsiung. It's alright because it's in the city but not something to plan a visit for. Get out into Taiwan's real mountains. Amazing.

I love the cornfields so keep posting those pictures from home.
I'm now in the club with the DA40. This photo was cropped a lot and a DA70 or DFA100macro might have been better but those are on the list well after the DA15. |
