This is one of my pet complaints about Pentax's owners especially Ricoh.
See: What happened to PEF support in Windows. - PentaxForums.com
Ricoh and other camera manufacturers have let their customers down and apparently nothing the users say will change that. Ricoh has turned RAW processing over to Adobe. As some would say - suck it up and deal with it.

My comment above is from a Asus ee-slate Windows 10 Pro x64. I came from Asus with Windows 7 x64. The version 2 update shown above was loaded AFTER upgrading to Windows 10 x64. Not a problem.
On my main desktop, flattened and reloaded with Windows 10 Pro x64, the codex loaded just fine as did the 32bit Blu-Ray player (I use a Blu-Ray R/W LG disk) software built for Windows 7.
32 bit software runs fine on x64 systems, it is 16bit stuff that make them puke bits on the floor.

My main box had a "power event" during one of the latest series of power failures in the Puget Sound. I had to flatten and reload the OS on my C:\ drive. I also had to reload all of my software, it is on the D:\ drive for the most part. This machine started out it life as a Windows 7 Pro x64, upgraded to 8-8.1 and 10. It is now running Windows 10 and I have not had to put the Windows codex on it to see RAW files. I did get the codex for DNG files (v2.0) and it works fine.
I have had this conversation before, Microsoft only supports JPEG, TIFF, GIF etc, the codex's (codexi?) are supplied via the manufacturers and packaged by a separate company and pushed via updates by Microsoft. Adobe owns the DNG file type and will never "give" it to Microsoft for distribution, they never have and they never will. Go to the Adobe site, search for DNG codex for Windows, download it and you will be golden.
