I'm actually heartened that this lens was held back as long as it has been after the disappointing track record of the 16-50. I tried my buddies D300 and a Nikon 70-200 f2.8 and was extremely impressed with the sharpness that lens produced. It was sharper than my Voigtlander 180/4, though the zoom had the extra magnification going for it (just a little one-off shot test from a tri). While the 60-250 is an f4 and a different beast, I've now been shown that high optical performance and zoom aren't incompatible thoughts.
For such a workhorse focal range as the 60-250 will cover and with a DA* badge, I am really expecting a lot of quality from this upcoming lens. While pentax old stable had a lot of credibility, the comparitively fledgeling DA line has yet to come out from under the shadow of that. I believe a heathy selection of available pro glass will be required for the 'K1' launch if a healthy selection of pros are to buy it, which makes each new release today a stepping stone to future success.
