I found this to be true with my DA16-50 too. I converted mine to screw drive about five years ago, after two SDM failures. Not a fan of the new "faster/better" AF motors, though the SDM seemed particularly prone to failure.

I used my K20d, with no issues, when converting my DA16-50mm to screw drive. Wonder if I should list that ability as a "feature" when I list it on the Marketplace? :)

Un-fricken believable. My SDM motor failed twice on my 16-50, first in failed in 2008 (when it was one year old) and I broke down and had it repaired by CRIS in 2012, which it then proceeded to fail again right after the warranty ran out. SDM motor = POS! So I've been using it as a manual focus lens. Just did the "fix" and now it's working perfectly with the screw drive again. Wow! Great thread. This should be a sticky, don't know why it isn't.
