Sure. Most of my lenses do not have th e A, and the green button becomes second nature. For example the pentax K 28/2 is probably the best lense ever, it has to be green-buttoned.

Do you have the camera set for Aperture in #2? This is a requirement to be able to use the green button. Also, you do not need the green button when using M42 lenses.

I damaged my Kx when the lens got stuck and could not retrieve it. I threw all those away. Another thing: The original adapter goes on the camera, not on the lens. Keep that in mind. It is very easy to remove. You need not tool to remove it. I remove it with my fingernail, pushing the little spring inside. Althugh the manual that comes with it says that you can use a ball point pen to do that. See how easy is to use? I use my K3 now mostly with M42 lenses.

There is no such think IMHO. I tried many. However, Pentax poduced the original Pentax couple of years ago, and I bough about 6 for $28 each, I think. Pentax may do that again. However, I have seen the original for sale in many places.

No, use the average. All this focal length do is provide some kind of guideline to the camera to reduce the shaking due to movement of the camera. A bit more or less will not hurt. Try not to move your hand too much. I now use Canon, and the cameras do not have SR, some lenses do, but I have lenses without. Just be careful, do not shake and use higher shutter speed.

The simple way of going about this is: forget about crop or not crop factor. If the lens is 50mm, then select 50mm. The camera will ask you for the focal length only to make sure it will operated the vibration control properly for that length. THat is it. The 1.5 factor something else.

Hi colleagues,
I noticed something happening when I use my K5 with a bayonet mount (K, M type) lens: In the Manual mode M, I set my ISO, my exposure, and manually set my aperture, then focus and stop down with the green button. Result: Nice photo, perfectly well balanced, etc. Sometimes, not the effect that I wanted, but well balanced. I notice that when I stop down with the green button, the camera does meter, but it also changes the exposure, JUST LIKE IN AV PRIORITY MODE.
When in manual mode M, I set my ISO, exposure, and manually set the aperture, but stop down the lens with the optical preview, the camera does meter and stops down the lens, but it does not change my aperture. In general, I get what I set the camera for.

In conclusion, if you stop down with the green button, you get an AV priority shot. I checked the K5 manual and it does say that the camera will automatically change the exposure. If you stop with the optical preview, then you get a true manual behavior.

Is this what everyone noticed? Am I wrong? I have not tested this theory on the Kx. I am not sure where the optical preview is. I guess is assigned to the green button, go figure.

I expect your comments.

I just got two more adapters M42-K necessary to use the Takumars screw mount lenses on the DSLRs. The new genuine adapters cost $23 each. They are exactly the same as before with one exception: they added the word PHILLIPINES, as of made in Philippines.

Here is how it looks now:

In my experience you do not need the green button when using the M42 lenses. You can work in AV priority, that is, you set the aperture manually with the aperture ring (first make sure the toggle button is in MANUAL) and then shoot. The camera will give you the shutter priority automatically.

Check your camera's manual, it should tell you what you can do or what you can assign to the green button.

See my post above. The only way to leave an adapter ON the lens is to buy the cheap adapter on ebay (from China) that come wtih a flange. Those can be placed on the lens and left there, but will not provide infinite focussing because they change the focal lenght the lens was designed for.

I read this whole thread years ago and also went through the stuck problems with the screw-mount lenses and the adapters until I got the Genuine Pentax adapter. The problems were solved not because the adapter was genuine, but because it came with instructions. I found out that I was doing the whole thing wrong. THE ADAPTER IS PLACED IN THE CAMERA, NEVER ON THE LENS. THE GENUINE PENTAX ADAPTER INSTRUCTIONS bring photos on how to do it. With a ball-point pen you place the adapter IN THE CAMERA and rotate until the spring clicks. Then you screw the lens and done. When done, you unscrew the lens to remove the lens FIRST. Then take the ball-point pen and push the spring counter-clockwise and teh adapter is removed. I tried my Bower (recommended at the beginning of this thread) adapter, and it works just fine. The Bower comes with a tool to remove the adapter frm the camera, no need of ball-point pens. The chines adapters with a flange are OK to install on the lens, but will not provide infinite focussing (because they add a small lenght to the focal distance --the thickness of the flange --- the genuine adapter has no flange, it is flush with the camera). If you can live with that, you are welcome. Remember, THE ADAPTER GOES IN THE CAMERA BODY, NOT ON THE LENS.
