So, a representative of Agora Gallery in NYC emailed me about my Zenfolio website. While it is flattering to be noticed, I cannot afford their representation. Still it raises some questions:
1) How good a gallery is Agora?
2) How would they come across my photo website among the many websites that are out there (with more added every day)? Do they go through ALL photo websites? Even Flickr?
3) To be represented by them (and, I assume, this is a general practice for most/all galleries), one must submit a portfolio to them for formal appraisal. Is it worth going through the portfolio evaluation process with them, even if I am not going to pay for their representation?
4) How good does one's work have to be to have a fighting chance in the vaunted NYC market?
5) Should I have responded with something other than the "I am not yet ready for primetime" message that I essentially sent back?
6) Have other people been contacted by Agora or by other galleries online?
Any and all input appreciated....
