You can't convert K to KA mount lenses. Well, physically you can, but don't expect metering to work correctly. You'd need to hack the firmware to get a K-to-KA converted lens to meter correctly.

This is a bit of a holy grail in Pentax land, by the way. It's something that could easily be incorporated into a camera by Pentax, but they choose not to. It could be done physically, as Nikon does it, by using a non-crippled mount, or via software, which would require only a few extra lines of code.

Hmmm... You seem to have a different version to that which most of us own, which just says "Cosina", not "Cosinon". The S stands for Standard. Cosina's 24mm and 28mm (and maybe 35mm?) had a W for Wide, while their 135mm had a T for Telephoto.

This seems normal for all Cosina lenses I've come across. Coating helps reduce flare and improves contrast and colour; a lens without multicoating wouldn't have sold well at the time (unless it was branded Leica).

The Cosina 55mm (not the Cosinon-S) has 9 aperture blades. This souldn't be a big deal because one buys this lens to shoot as open as possible, not stopped down, where the extra blade would make a difference.

I started off with two left feet, and after some training I now have two right feet. It's all very confusing, but I hope to master the macarena by the end of the year.

That was my goal, to shame everyone. Nice pics are secondary.

Jay, I didn't post the OOF pics, but that doesn't mean there weren't any

This little girl is very active, and when you have less than 1 inch in DoF, getting shots in-focus is challenging. If anyone is interested, what I did was set the focus to approximately the right distance, then I'd look through the viewfinder and move forward/backward slightly until I saw her in focus. Pretty much the same as macro photography...except in this case the subject was also moving backwards and forwards, making the whole thing quite challenging :)

I was shooting for perhaps 1 hour, and I remember putting the camera down at the end of it and feeling mentally drained, like I'd just come out of an end-of-year exam at university. I can only imagine how wedding photographers in the manual focus era must've felt! :(

Now where is that DA* 50mm f/1.2, Pentax??????

Been a looong time since I posted a pic in this thread. These were taken back in January, on a K10D with the Cosina 55mm wide open (how else!?). EXIF is intact if anybody wants to see other details. ISO was generally 500-800 throughout the session, which was shot indoors in the late evening with nothing but crappy fluorescent+tungsten lighting.

I wish to thank my friends for having such cute kids--it really makes these tiring photography sessions worth it for me.

Probably not. After all, he was looking for a symmetrical aperture, with other lens qualities being superfluous.

That is a very sensible attitude. I had a guy return one of these that I had sold him because the aperture blades were not symmetrical from f/8 onwards. He took the hit on restocking fee and shipping too; he just didn't want asymmetrical blades :hmm:

It's a normal feature of many old lenses, and is particularly common with this lens. If anybody has one that forms a perfect nonagon, raise your hand! :)

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Javier.

I don't have any extra copies of this lens, but I may be selling my copy to finance a K-7 purchase. We'll see. If you're looking on Ebay, this guy has sold a good number of them. He might have more up his sleeve, I don't know.

Quicksand, that banged up filter thread does mean you got a great price for it :)

Your cat seems a bit surprised that you managed to get the pic in focus :p It's a challenge, but you'll get better with practice.

What's in the background has a lot to do with how the bokeh looks. Mike SF's shots had very busy backgrounds, which made for some harsh bokeh. DaddyLuna, on the other hand, had much simpler backgrounds, that were also further away, so they look much nicer.

You'd be surprised at what 1/2 stop can do, especially from f/1.4 to f/1.2.

I would try to haggle with the seller and get the price down to $240-250.

Keeper rate wide open is certainly much lower. In my case there are two reasons:

1) Shallow DoF at portrait distances.
2) If I'm using f/1.2 it's because it's dark and I need as much light-gathering glass as possible. Being dark means it's inherently more difficult to focus manually.

When I'm shooting landscape distances (5-10m and over) in low light, I'm usually OK with quite a high keeper rate. It's the portraits that kill my average, especially when I'm shooting little kids.

I think you guys will find that the micro-prism is much more useful than the split-image. For this reason I've always wanted the Ec-A from m80's link, but it's only available for Canon. Bummer... :(

Did you get the one that's cut from a K1000 screen? I have one that I believe comes from a Minolta screen, so it's a bit thicker, but still works fine.

Thanks for that comparison, Kelly... The plot thickens :hmm:

What we need you to do now is take them apart and note their optical formula to see if what I posted here was correct. I can lend you my little screwdriver if you want

Jake, I like the first one very much, although I would have cropped it on the left to a 5x4 format. And I would also have, ummm, wiped the negatives down ;)

The nail shot is pretty funky.

Given the high-contrast of the branch edges, I'm impressed by the small amount of purple fringing here.
