Actually that looks and sounds a lot like dust on the sensor to me.

Well, last week I bought my third copy of Takumar 50/1.4 (this is the SMC, rubber grip version). It was sold "for parts or repair", with a speck of dust inside and loose distance ring. Fixed within 30 minutes, paid about $60 total for it.
Here's one of the first pictures that came out of it. IMGP1595.jpg by kcobain1992, on Flickr
(Also let me know what you think about the handle in the foreground)

Don't EVER try to mount a SMC Takumar on your Zenit. Just google "Takumar Zenit".

Yes, I know, and when your girlfriend's parents are the ones driving, you can't even really complain. The thing is, I do regret we lost some sunsets when the light was really beautiful and the scenery was beautiful too, because we were almost in the middle of nowhere, and still had a lot to drive. At other times, we arrived at our destination at all the wrong times, when the sun was really strong and harsh and all we could get were some average tourist photos because of that.
As a result, I did take a lot of other photos, but I couldn't find the patience to even revisit them.

Thank you so much. The travel was a very long car ride, so unfortunately we couldn't stop anywhere I desired to take a picture, but nonetheless, something still came out.

Thanks. I read somewhere that the difference between Super and SMC versions was most evident in the 28/3.5 lens, and having owned both versions, I can attest that. Although it still shows some chromatic aberration which goes away with a click in Lightroom, it is still a better lens than the STak, being sharper with more contrast and less flare. I need to update my review accordingly. I didn't have the chance to compare it to the highly-praised K/M 28/3.5, but I am fairly curious how well it stands in front of those two.

Thank you. There's not much to it, really - the key is in the lighting. I applied a custom tone curve, shaped like an inverted S on the blue channel. It looks like this: .
Anyway, here are some more photos. I thought they were nice, but some of them are a little quirky, so it's ok if you don't like them.
First one with the 200mm f/4, all others with the 50mm f/1.4. Sorry for the purists around, but I think I brought some new life into my broken 50/1.4 that I said in my last post I would take out for more pictures. Basically, I dipped it in caustic soda, and got this "natural" aluminium finish :) As for the photos, as you can see for yourselves, they don't appear to care much about the fact that the lens is chipped, or that the aperture is "manual", or that the focusing ring is stiff.
All pictures taken with the "broken" one. IMGP8231-Edit.jpg by kcobain1992, on Flickr IMGP8167.jpg by kcobain1992, on Flickr IMGP8186.jpg by kcobain1992, on Flickr IMGP8198.jpg by kcobain1992, on Flickr IMGP8221.jpg by kcobain1992, on Flickr IMGP8097.jpg by kcobain1992, on Flickr

Not a picture this time, but a lens.
This is the Frankenstein of two broken 50/1.4s. The focus is stiff, the glass is chipped, the exterior is all messed up, and the aperture is "manual" - the aperture ring is stuck, so is the auto-manual switch, so you have to spin the lens in order to open/close the diaphragm. All in all, it looks awful, but it still takes Takumar pictures (sorry for not-so-great picture, but I had to upload something to show what it's capable of). Actually, I think it's kinda cool. Maybe the black paint was so worn out, it had to be removed.
