Just looking at that ladder makes me hurt - can't imagine working off that over your head like that. It does look so nice now but I'm sure was tough getting done.

First shots from my new Fuji x30 today. Still working on what settings I like. Also this is all new to me as I have decided to shoot only jpeg with this camera - been shooting raw exclusively with my Pentax gear since switching over from film. Not too bad for OOC jpeg's with just a tweak of shadows and highlights - also was foggy and dreary which didn't help....

I'm glad I don't have any mosquiots around here - and I don't know why. I live along a river and there is a swampy area just upstream from the house. Maybe because we have so many bats?

Nice snow blower! I think I had the same model when we first bought this place. While it was an excellent machine (with the electric start) it didn't stick around long with our 500' driveway until I got a plow for the tractor. That was back when I worked for the state and I would hear the guys on the radio saying to watch out for "Mrs. Stormtech" when they went down my road - she was out there with the snow blower at 2am!

You have a lot more snow on the ground than I do here. And it looks like your metal roof is ready to unload (again). There's a lot of water content in all that snow come spring time......

Not to go too deep into this subject, but I always wonder why this has happened. Way back yonder Grandpa and Grandma were always at the farm in their elder years with their family. When did this change come about where they are now shuffled off to a nursing home and forgotten?

Thanks for the info Rupert. I'm not really interested in actually stepping foot in Mexico - just to stand on the banks of the Rio Grande and view it from our side. Good to know the Big Bend park goes right to the boarder.

While continuing the San Antonio theme (arm chair travelling again..) how far is it to the Mexican border from that area? I thought it would be neat to stand on the banks of the Rio Grande and look over toward Mexico. That would fulfill something for me after reading so many western novels all my life. Any state or national parks along the Rio Grande worth seeing?

I really appreciate the invitation! What a great time we could have 4-wheeling those back trails and to have a guide also. But this year it won't happen for us - possibly in a year or two.

We have our big baby at home - Bentley our English Mastiff - who has never been off the property or in a vehicle except for coming home as a pup and one trip to be neutered. He's getting pretty old and has major anxiety attacks when Mrs. Stormtech just leaves to do the grocery run.

Also as it is right now with the RA, I am only good for driving for about 150 miles at most at a time - it would take us forever to get to Texas at that rate! I'm hoping that my condition might improve some in the future so I am kind of planning a road trip way in advance considering the 2 things that keep us at home right now.

This pic is from 2.5 years ago - his face is totally white (gray) now.

Thanks. I've added that to my bookmark list. I'm kind of "arm chair" travelling right now but keeping a list of must see places. i also found out I qualify for a permanent free pass (disabled) to all National Parks in the country.

That sounds so good! Around here 85% of the land is owned by the State Forest (DCNR). They have nice gravel roads that run through, but only through certain areas. You might be able to see 0.001% of the area from those roads. No vehicles (including ATV's) at all allowed anywhere else. This is great for hiking but that is out of the question for me now.

I've read of other places out west where you can drive the back trails like you can in Big Bend - that all would be like a dream come true for me.

That fact makes it more enticing to me. Can't walk much anymore but would be great if I could drive trails like that to explore. I'm sure my 4WD pickup could handle that.

Love the pics of the missions also! That area of Texas is on my bucket list to see if I am ever able to travel again. I remember there was another area you had told me was a must see somewhere in western Texas.

That's an amazing shot! I have no idea what a TZ60 is - does it have a 500mm lens or more? It is nice and clean and seems to me you had to be quite a ways away from the Cormorant to not disturb it from its sunning.

I'm in a real quandary with the same thing. I don't have the money for any extras anymore so to buy something something else has to give. I've sold off the lenses that I don't use anymore and down to the 4 that I do. I'm tempted to sell my DA* 60-250 to get the x30 - haven't used that lens in over a year. Primarily use my DA*300 and DFA 100 WR now around the homestead. But it's one of those things - I would never be able to buy the 60-250 again once it's gone.

And another great example of the Classic Chrome! That and the WiFi capabilities has sealed the deal for the x30 to be on my want list.

Happy to hear you are feeling better! What great scenes you captured! Instantly brought me back to my childhood - that's all I did was ski in the winter. I was lucky enough that my parents would bring me along to places like Hunter Mountain in NY and Killington in Vt.

Thanks for the menu Paul - makes more sense now.

Yeah Rupert - I guess you got a lot of food for that money.

I just didn't know what to think with the term BBQ - I would have guesses ribs. Now I see there are both beef and pork ribs on the menu.

I've been trying to figure this BBQ stuff out. In a post of yours earlier this image stuck in my mind:

When I looked at it closer, I saw 2 price tags - one of which says $33.64. Is that the price for one portion? I find that absolutely insane! And what is the other price sticker of $4.60?

Then I was trying to figure out what kind of meat this BBQ you talk about is, but on the price sticker it says pork chops. So is BBQ just grilled pork chops.

And then I looked at your link for Cooper's - still trying to figure out what meat is used and I didn't see it mentioned anywhere on their site - just BBQ.

Yeah - it seems this forum group is quite gear centered. And I'll admit I was caught up in that for a few years also. I honestly believe that getting my last toy camera (Panny LX5) has made me step back from that and really concentrate on the photography itself - the object of capturing light.
