Thanks for the response. I have made a couple test shots indoor and outdoor. Although I have seen some flare when pointing directly towards the light source, in most of the cases I found the non-SMC Takumar to produce same quality photos -if not better- as SMC at the same f-value. I already have DA 50-200 and Tamron DI LD 70-300 that give good 135mm images under very bright light. They are not as fast as the 2.5 Takumar, though. I know that the extra f-stops in 2.5 Takumar will come in handy at times. So, I decided to keep the Takumar. Thanks again.

Just when I thought my kit was complete (K-r & K100D; DA 18-55, DA 50-200, A 50 f1.7, A 28 f2.8, Tamron DI LD 70-300, Takumar 135mm f2.5) and no further upgrade required, I have just today acquired an SMC Pentax 135mm f3.5.
I am not sure which one I should keep: Takumar 135mm f2.5 or SMC Pentax 135mm f3.5 (Links go to lens reviews)
I will try to compare them outdoor over the weekend. I was wondering if anyone has done that already (could find side by side comparison online), and if there are significant flare issues. I was happy with my non-SMC Takumar until I have got the SMC Pentax. Have not really notice flare with the built in hood and a Hoya polarizer. Any insight?
