On film, it's very good. The fringing is less a probleme, color are very good. Wide open it's perfect for portraits, and at f5.6 it's good for everything.

Fast lenses weren't created to be tack sharp wide open at the time. A little bit of softness was wanted.

To me, it's pretty good, there is a lot of fine details, like hair, or the embrodery (i don't knwo if it's the right word, i mean the detail in the white jacket).

this lens have a design that is very close to the 80mm f2,8 for medium format (Volna 80/2,8, Mamyia 80/2,8, etc...)

the 80/2,8 are sharp in the middle, and have a very nice softening through the edge, at full aperture. Very Pentax-like.

Stop it down to f4 or 5,6 and it's becoming deadly razor sharp.

So yes, it's probably a very good lens.

Those lens weren't created with the "it need to be razor sharp at full aprture" tendency of nowadays. Wide aperture lens were soft because it's what's nice in portraiture. Who likes to see all the defect of the skin, all the pore of the skin, we see with today's razor sharp lenses ?

The Helios 44 and the Pentax 58/2 have very different formula. the rendering will be different. I don't think the Pentax will swirl for example.

My dream lens !

I was wondering : are you satisfied of it ?

Absolutely right, nothing stellar with this lens :)

Some love for the 28/3.5, or 28/2.8 yes, but honestly who can love this "average" lens ? I use it because i don't have any other 28mm - i should buy a better one (LBA, i'm calling youuuuuu).

Thanks for the honest answer :)

I was wondering, does the Takumar A 28mm f2.8 does count as a Tak, or you consider it as wretch usurping the great Tak name ?
