This is like : Sometimes i think i've won the lottery and then i wake up :lol:
Considering the DFA*50, it's absolutely unlikely that the 85mm will be small by any means.

Go get the Sigma if you need a 85mm. It's the kind of lens that won't loose much value over time.

And if you want people to buy it.
Who would pony up 600€ and more for something noisy, or slow, or unrealiable ? Nobody !
Pentax ain't a Canon or Nikon and can't afford to create half baked product with shortcut to save like 10€ on a product with taking the risk that people won't buy it because of that damn cheap shortcut !

Both Canon 70-200/4 are less than 800gr (with or without IS).
Nikon 70-200/4 with VR is 850 gr.
Tamron 70-200 with VC is also 850 gr.
All four lenses are praised as incredible wide open. So i do think Pentax can do an excellent 70-200/4 for less than a kilo.

I think the DA 60-250 will probably be slowly be taken out as inventory clear out, replaced by the 70-200/4.
The thing with the current line-up is that it makes difficult choosing lenses because none is really comparable to the other. The 70-200/2.8 is fast and big. 60-250 has more reach and slower, but not very light either !
Making lenses with similar base spec and variation around it makes it easier to compare and choose, and buy :)

Once you've used amazing lenses, it's hard to go back to averages one.
I'm pretty sure that if the 85 is as good as the dfa*50, it will sell like hotcakes ! If the 85 is priced 1200$, it's only 150$ more expensive than second hand FA*85. And i bet that everyone will go for the newer one at that price !

If Pentax had the best flash system in the world, i would understand the behaviour.
Pentax is far from having a great flash and light system, some want to work their way to make it great and Ricoh says "no" ? It's really a strange thing to do, unless they want to ditch in the near future the P-TTL for something else.

It will be a very interesting year indeed !
- With DSLR that are always good enought to satisfy any need in still photography.
- Milc improving faster than DSLR
- Firmware updates allowing fast uprgrading of current body (see Fuji and Sony)
- People wanting lighter imaging solution
- Mixed stills and video - with very good results from basics fonction like crisp 1080p)
- People wanting more high end lenses.
The thing is Pentax excells at nones, but is never extremely bad. Room from improvements. ;)

At some point, we have to be honest : We know a 85mm is in preparation, but we have no clues when it will be out. If the guy need a 85mm, like now, either he can get the FA* or the Sigma. He expressed he want the Sig, so go get the Sig. Otherwise, he will probably complain, and say Ricoh is a bad brand blah blah blah ... Hence my advise, don't wait for something that can come tomorrow, next week, month, year.

Go get the Sigma if you need a 85mm. No release date so far. Can be this year, next year. Who knows.

Why ask for something that won't appear overnight, and whine about it ? Go with Canon, get what you need, be happy instead !
