Let';s get past the communism toppling thing.

That was twenty years ago, and frankly the first world has gone nowgere but downhill ever since. Canadians in particular have nothing to brag about their country, which is the among the most corrupt and venial in the world today.
Sorry, I realize that's totally off-topic, but these casual references to outdated events and empty triumphalism really upset me. I'll shut up now.

Rare? Who the hell cares.
Every second you spend checking out the cameras of the people around you, you are missing a potentially great capturable moment.
It's not the camera, it's the film/sensor, lens, your technique, the light, and your eye.
That said, holding a Pentax means forgetting everything but what you are surveying to photograph.
